Polybook - Kaj Suominen

Been too busy with actual intern work, which I can't show just yet. Haven't forgotten this project though, and now had time to do some work on it. redid the canopy since the previous version just wasn't good enough and I've come bit more in ways of using hardops and booleans.

Can I see the reference? :)

Noomi Rapace. :) google is full pics of her. :)

ok...I dont have any experience with likeness, but I think its getting there. Like I said I think the jaw is too bulky, and so it the area around the mouth, by which i meant the area right under the lips, and the "folds" to the side of the lips.

Also the curve of the lower lip is much more straitght on her than what you sculpted. And I think the nostrils should be a bit more defined.

But honestly I dont know, I dont have experience with stuff like this :D its just fun for me to try to spot the differences. I hope it helps a bit but someone with a better eye for these things would give you better advice

  • Kaj Suominen(louhikarme) replied

Thanks, that does help. one reason why i'm keeping my practice a day apart, is to give my eyes rest so i can spot differences, this i do hope gets better in time too so i could speed up the work aswell. currently though, my main thought is to leave my brain to work the stuff in background, if that makes sense. :)

and yeah, likeness is friggin hard, that said though, it hasn't stopped me sofar. :)

  • Tomas Plasil(tomasplasil) replied

No worries...yeah i can imagine its pretty hard :D Im probably gonna wait a bit before I try it...I watched a seminar by Glauco Longhi (if you dont know him check him out his work is really amazing) and he was saying that when youre learning to scuplt faces its better to not do likeness but just try to make a face with all the correct proportions and angles, so that it works and looks realistic. He said that when you create a likeness, it encourages you to just copy what you see, instead of trying to understand the structure and how it all works together.

But im not saying that to discourage you from this project, its just a thing i heard :) if this is what you want to do then totally go for it

i can understand his reasoning, that said, it is also something i keep in mind constantly, whether if its mechanical stuff or organic, i want to know what happens behind.

  • Kaj Suominen(louhikarme) replied

#112 setting up for multires sculpting took bit more time i anticipated and didnt get that far with skin details just yet.

  • Kaj Suominen(louhikarme) replied

#113 i did remember one thing now. micro details in substance and not in sculpt even if it s possible, bit of wasting time. end goal is in ue4.. live and learn..
