Well, this seemed like it'd be a neater experience so lets go for it. After finishing the last class and finishing my Blood Money render I decided I really like to tell stories with my creations so whilst I'll probably do a standalone model in this class at least once expect that kinda stuff from me. Good luck to you all and lets have a great class.

Very cool, Aaron. When I was first getting into 3D - 2003-ish - it was a trend for people telling stories though complex, single-frame CG images. Sorta like Norman Rockwell in concept but a wide spectrum of contexts. Not as many people do that these days but I miss it. Sounds like your venturing that direction, which is super cool.

Anyhoo, I look forward to seeing your homework here! And grading it with an iron fist 😉

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

@theluthier Yeah it certainly seems that storytelling renders have fallen out of style somewhat, like tbrbn in that render I posted they're seemingly becoming rarer and seem to elicit nostalgia now haha. Really looking forward to seeing what I and everyone else are going to push ourselves to do, so be as harsh as you wish to be with my grades!

    Day 1 done!

With this class and a personal project underway I decided it'd be best to only do a bit each day as opposed to throwing myself in headfirst like I did with the previous class, so I don't end up abandoning anything.

What we got here is a cozy medieval house (which I primarily used  this for inspiration/reference but added a few things), I'll probably end up adding a few more details to it as I do but for now I'm pleased to call it a day:

By far the most difficult part was making things align, don't forget about the snap tool! Also I know that I'm supposed to use Eevee for the final render but I decided to do this in Cycles for now simply because without any materials at all this looks a little funky in Eevee. Oh and full disclosure I did use the Boolean modifier in some areas but I've been told that that's acceptable to use.

thecabbagedetective Looks great Aaron, so many details! This looks really cool!! And in one day, wow. I think that you've accomplished a lot 😁Awesome reference too by the way. So if I get it right, this is just the beginning?

  • silentheart00 replied

    Nice work!  Great details!

  • Wilco Wilbrink(carrotnl) replied

Wow, this looks really nice. Better then the original IMHO. 👍

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

ssmurfmier1985 Thanks! And yeah I intend to create a full scene but this is probably the largest part of it so I thought it important to get it done first.

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

    silentheart00 Ta very much!

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

ccarrotnl Damn that's high praise, thank you kindly!

  • smurfmier1985 replied

thecabbagedetective Awesome, looking forward to seeing how it evolves 😊

  • Julian B(bsdwerbeagentur) replied

thecabbagedetective Very cool Aaron! 😍 I somehow also love the light.

  • Curious (golden-kitty) replied
This is soo nice!! Keep up the awesomeness!!
  • Andres Altuve(aaltuvem) replied

The overall feeling is AMAZING! Are you going to texture it?

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

bbsdwerbeagentur  Why thanks! Lighting has always been my weakness so even on simple things like this I really try to make it *pop*, per se.

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

ggolden-kitty Ta very much, I'll certainly try my best!

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

aaaltuvem Well according to the rules I'm not allowed to texture it for the class, only simple materials, but there's certainly nothing stopping me from texturing it after the class is finished. Maybe a small project on the side? Either way, ta for the feedback!

  • Kaj Suominen(louhikarme) replied

thecabbagedetective nice work Aaron. good stuff there :)

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

louhikarme  Why ta, you're very kind!

  • Kent Trammell replied

thecabbagedetective Excellent job, Aaron. This has the same charm as Belle's small town in the animated Beauty and the Beast. I love that charm. Good tip about the snap tool. Hope I didn't breeze over that too fast in the stream..

BUT since you used Cycles instead Eevee....lol nah that's totally fine. Easily an A, sir. You already did the official primitives exercises I assume?
