yyukinoh1989 Why thanks! Hope that stills counts as a primitive lol.

  • William Miller(williamatics) replied

thecabbagedetective Of course Suzanne is a primitive.  You don't need to go into edit mode to make her, right?

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

williamatics True, it's just I remember looking at some of the older primitives-only homework with Suzanne in it and it was considered a bit of a point of contention.

  • smurfmier1985 replied

thecabbagedetective All righty then I'll just wait and see :)

  • smurfmier1985 replied

thecabbagedetective I recently saw Jonathan Lampel react on one of these discussions at an exercise and he said it's fine to use Suzanne :)

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

ssmurfmier1985 Thank goodness, don't wanna sit here modeling a turkey with primitives for like 2 hours lol. Cheers for that.

  • Scott McClellan(pffsfs) replied

Absolutely breathtaking with all the detail you've got here. Very inspirational.

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

Just got the shading left and then we're good to go!

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

pffsfs Why thank you, you're very kind! If what I make can be considered inspirational then that's me happy.

  • silentheart00 replied

    Looking good, dude!

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

    silentheart00 Thanks, appreciate it!

    Homework Submission Week 1

"You're not around from 'ere, are ya stranga? Look, that lord of ours sits on his arse up in that castle doing nuffin' but stuffin' himself stupid and makin' sure the entire town's guard keeps him and us common lot separate. What I'm tryna say is that people 'round 'ere are used to sortin' out their own problems. Take the Bakers, lovely old couple, wouldn't hurt a fly, then some scoundrel decided it'd be a good idea to burn their 'ouse down for a laugh. Mrs. Baker had a pretty close scrape and Mr. Baker, well he ain't havin' any of that. Heard some stuck up Jack-the-Lad in the local earlier smashed outta 'is skull talking about how easy it is to get away with crimes 'round 'ere. I think Mr. Baker was in earshot..."

Well that was... interesting, I'll say. Coming in at a whopping 1,669 primitives is... I dunno really. I was gonna call it "Justice" but that just felt off for some reason, so here it is:

Here it is without the kerfuffle in the foreground:

It's quite fun limiting yourself to see what you can come up with but my goodness does it make me sad I can't texture these. Though I guess this suits their cartoony style more. I honestly think it looks better without the people but I think that's to do with the fact that human are significantly harder to model believably with primitives than buildings.

I'm not really sure what advice I can give so instead I'll give you my .blend file and you can have a nosy 'round and ask any questions you see fit. HOWEVER! There is a catch. Ya see, I'm feeling pretty generous, and not only am I gonna give you a .blend file, I'm going to give you a myriad of other things! All you have to do is choose the right one. Pick wisely now!

Did you get it first try? Nice if so, but hey, nothing stopping you again if you didn't!

Whilst the above renders were done in Cycles I was instructed to do this in Eevee too so here they are:

Also here's my original primitives exercise which I did about 2 months or so ago. I won't lie, I phoned it in 'cause I just wanted to get it finished and I regret that, but hey I think this makes up for it. And with that I believe this week is a wrap for me, good luck to those of you who have finished and a good day to you all!

thecabbagedetective Those freebies we're funny :-p I love it! The story adds so much to your image. Love the dark mood of the picture, fits perfectly. The askew camera angle makes total sense now :) awesomely done Aaron! I take my hat of for you

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

ssmurfmier1985 You're very kind, I appreciate it! Stories told through renders don't seem as popular as they used to be so I'm doing my best to keep the tradition alive!

  • smurfmier1985 replied

thecabbagedetective Please do, because I love seing those!

  • silentheart00 replied

Very nice!  I like it.  I can't really tell what the guy is holding, though, so maybe in the future if you could think about placements and if people can understand what you want them to understand at first glance to help with your one frame storytelling.  Overall, very good.

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

silentheart00 Ta very much! It's supposed to be a pitchfork, but I'll admit even I had issues making out what it was supposed to be in the render, so that's something to keep in mind for next time.

  • silentheart00 replied

thecabbagedetective A pitchfork?  I thought it was a spear!

  • William Miller(williamatics) replied

I thought it was a gun.

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

silentheart00 williamatics Just letting you guys know that I edited it slightly so it's more apparent as to what it actually is.
