This thread is dedicated to the wheels and the rear axle of the backhoe project.
We can thank Omar for the Inspiration kicking it off with his DOG logo and Shark. What a great way for people to forever have their credit displayed for this project. Plus it makes for fun Easter egg hunting! I love finding Easter eggs.
That coat of arms would be sweet if that's what you were thinking duererย
Oh, I have a coat of arms for my family from a book about the Franz family worldwide published by Family Heritage International (Bath, Ohio). But I don't know whether I may use that so that I'll probably create something completely new. Nevertheless, there're 84 pages in that book with addresses of people with my family name worldwide and 17 pages alone for the US! Didn't know that there'e so many of my kind ๐๐.ย
If it's your family I don't see why that would be a big deal. It's your coat of arms after all!
Now that is a proper homage Ingmar duerer
A metaphoric cherry on top of the masterpiece that is the rear axle.
Nice work getting all of the corrections done. If you haven't yet make sure to let @theluthier know you took care of it (I guess I just did too haha).
I have a second version of the coat of arms, but it needs to float slightly above the surface in order to avoid z-fighting:
@theluthier I have traced a scan of that coat of arms in Inkscape:
I've imported it as SVG file into Blender where I've extruded the curves for the feathers. The rings on the shield and the scroll with my family name are modeled as meshes, the scroll by conversion of the path into a mesh with some final editing (all quads for training purposes ๐).
@theluthier, @adrian2301 and blanchsb I've uploaded a newer version of my part's file with the complete coat of arms correctly colored:
PS: Saved with Blender 2.83.11 ๐!
And a special "Halloween Edition" of my rear axle starring "Werewolf Pete":
Thanks, @adrian2301, I'm proud to be a member of the team that created our "DOG" ๐๐! All members together have created an outstanding artwork ๐๐and I can barely wait to see our "DOG" being rigged and animated๐คธโโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐!
PS: @adrian2301 Your new avatar is looking great ๐๐!
I've just found out that setting "View Clip Start" to 100 m ย avoids any z-fighting between the coat of arms and the rear axle in the "3D Viewport's" "Solid Viewport Shading Mode":
That's what the "Blender 2.90 Manual" also mentions here:
"A large clipping range will allow you to see both near and far objects, but reduces the depth precision resulting in artifacts.
In some cases, a very large range may cause operations that depend on the depth buffer to become unreliable although this depends on the graphics card and drivers."
And the solution here:
I hope that this won't be a problem with the final rendering.
PS: Interesting footnote: With "Orthographic View" the "View Clipping Start" is ignored as you can read here:
"Orthographic view:ย
The planes with distance ofย negative end and positive end from the focus point, in this case the Start is ignored. "
This has to do with the precision of floating point calculations in a computer; you can (simplified ) think of it like this: when you have a precision of 5 digits, ย then in a range of 100 meters, you'd be able to see the difference between 5 and 6 mm, for instance. But in a range of 100 km, you only be able to differentiate between meters...
So, that's it! "Werewolf Pete" has taken over the control:
Clear everything out of his way !!!
@theluthier I've found out what caused my problems with the livestreams during yesterday's "Backhoe Livestream #8". ย It was an addon for video downloads that obviously automatically caches livestream data even if you didn't start a record. I've now isolated the culprit and banned it to the digital dungeon (others would simply say "deactivated", but this doesn't sound dramatic enough ๐๐!) where it can stay for the time being ๐.
