Keiths Polybook

Hi there!

Welcome to my Polybook where I will post my current work in progress.

Some more progress from me, I've followed the lessons and defined more features of the mouth, nose and eyes

The eyes took a couple of attempts to get where they are - definitely the most tricky part yet. I'm seeing a bit of bumpiness here and there so I will smooth things out before moving to the ear.

    It's no race Shawn!!😅

Besides, aren't you busy making those sweet assets for the Spice vendors house?

  • Keith (beefkeef) replied

Alert! More of my WIP spam incoming Sorry!! 🤪

I've followed along with the next couple of lessons and sculpted the ear, and then some more attention to the neck. It's interesting how those subtle creases make such a difference on the neck!

I've also practiced trying to capture my own likeness - definitely harder than you think! Interesting again to realise just how asymmetrical my ugly mug is 😅 Probably adding the facial hair later would help the likeness I feel

Nice ear! Sculpting those is definitely my nemesis at the moment.

Everything is looking pretty darn good, I'd say.

  • adrian replied

Those ears look great, as does the rest of the head.

  • Keith (beefkeef) replied

jammingammon thanks fir that! Yea the ear can be a bit tricky for sure - Kent's step by step is really useful!

I've started putting some sculpting boards together on my Pinterest, I'm also finding those helpful - feel free to take a look if you like - maybe they can help you too?

    @adrian2301 Thanks Adrian I appreciate it!! 👍👍👍

Thanks man! I'll definitely be checking those out soon. Hoping to move onto some sculpting of the human body in the next few months.

  • Keith (beefkeef) replied

Nothing exciting here, just some more practice results.

I've decided to go back to the start in an attempt to really commit the shapes of the head to memory using Kents formula. Kent's reference head is orange and the grey one is how far I can go without watching the tutorial. I will try and do the same thing for the next levels of detail and I hope that this will reinforce the shapes to my mind.

I've also been sculpting some mouths, again to try and memorise the anatomy - I think I'll do that with each feature until I really grasp the shapes I need to make.

This is going to take me a while but practice will hopefully make perfect eventually!👍

  • Michael Mirn(michaelmirn) replied

Try Gottfried Bammes or Jeno Barcsay for anatomy)

  • Keith (beefkeef) replied

Wow, there's some stunning results when I google these two names - Thanks Michael!

I have to add that these guys are pretty good artists. They came from classes when an artist would model a bone in clay a dozen times, then draw it hundreds times from different angles, then practice on models for another several years. And only then he would dare to give a very humble advice on how to draw)

They are real deal and yes, very great teachers.

    So here's my Polybook! It's been a while........😅

Gonna try and get back into the swing of things with something relatively simple I hope, so I've opted for this Zombie character I liked on Pinterest.

Not too much to show just yet but it's something! Remembering my key binds is a bit of a mission but it's coming back to me.

Hey Spikey, thanks so much for the encouragement!  Not sure about epic though, I'm still feeling quite rusty!!!!! 😅

Just a little more progress tonight, I've added a bit more detail to the body and also thought it would be a good time to cut some holes in his side. I think the artwork hints at ribs showing there, so I've blocked them in too. Pretty disgusting when you think about it !

Going to give him that hair next or whatever it is, and the legs look a bit wonky so I'll try and improve those too.

    Say CHEESE!

A bit more progress on this guy today, I spent a bit of time on his teeth and gave him a tongue - all zombies need a tongue.

I also gave those ribs a bit of detail, and added a stomach I guess 😅

I think I'm nearly there with the sculpting - I think that there's a couple of drool drips in his mouth and also the gas coming out -I'll take a look at that next!

    michaelmirn ,

There appear to be some problems with the search functionality in the forum (I'll report it  to the devs), but here you go:
