Keiths Polybook

Hi there!

Welcome to my Polybook where I will post my current work in progress.

    She looks soooo good!

Which sculpting workflow do you use?

  • Keith (beefkeef) replied

@adrian2301 haha yes, she has talent as well as beauty! Not sure I'd trust anything she was cooking tbh 😛

@fide thanks Fide! It's just the good old dyntopo sculpting to get most of the shapes that I want, then I'll remesh with Quad remesher (that's a paid add-on but very useful imo).

Then I'll add a multi-res modifier to the new all quad mesh, subdivide it a few times and carry on sculpting some higher details.

I think that I'm finished with the sculpting part of this model now.

I went over the hands again and added some finger nails here, and also improved the teeth a bit. It was also getting a bit draughty under that skirt so I added in some under garments - nothing fancy as I don't expect them to be seen tbh.

I used some curves with a modified bevel to try and capture the smoke coming from the pot, I wasn't too sure if that would work - but I do quite like the way it looks.

I'm starting to think about her beautiful, flowing hair now! I just very quickly added an eyebrow so I can play around with a few settings and try to figure out what I need to do!

  • Ingrid Frank(Fide) replied

    beefkeef thank you :)

Very nice! I like the expressiveness in the hands, especially with the nails. I like where you're going with the smoke too, its a cool style, lotsa volume. Looking forward to seeing the rest of it develop.

  • Keith (beefkeef) replied

jammingammon Thanks so much for the comment I appreciate it! I'm always struggling a bit when it comes to sculpting hands and feet, to me they seem the one of the hardest parts to get looking right - so I'm glad to hear you think they looks good! 👍👍

  • Keith (beefkeef) replied

Here's an update on Miss Beauty. And wow, doesn't she get prettier by the day😅

I've added three hair systems, one for the eyebrows, another for the main head of hair and finally another for the long back hair. I've actually found this part to be quite time consuming, as it's mostly a case of tweaking a few sliders in the hair settings and then render it out to take a look at it. Not the best workflow I'm sure!

I think it's getting there though, I can probably groom the back hairs a little more for some more variation.

My next goal is to think about abou

t retopology and some UV-unwrapping - will post again in a month or two.....   🤪

And also, here is a render that went a bit wrong but it did make me laugh, not sure what happened here..

  • adrian replied

Its her eyes that do it for me!

The way she is looking at me, thinking 'I know what I would like to do to you'

Probably throw me in her cauldron.

I think her spell may have gone wrong in the last render.

It is always great to get another notification from this thread.
Neat one, Keith! And that hairy one really sets the mood)

  • Ingrid Frank(Fide) replied

I really need to have a talk with her and talk about her beauty routine.... what a stunning young lady

  • Keith (beefkeef) replied

@adrian2301 haha yes, she certainly has her beady eyes on ya - I'd watch my back if I was you!! 😛 That's the thing I love about Kevin's art is the expressiveness he manages to capture not only in faces, but posture, hands, teeth, hair, everything really - he is awesome!

michaelmirn Thanks for the comment Michael! Maybe the hairy one is a future were-wolf-woman project ! 😅

@fide Please Fide, yes! Sit her down and and have a chat - you'd be doing us all a favour!

  • Keith (beefkeef) replied

Nothing exciting here, I've just started some retopo and unwrapping - and decided to start with the pot. A little bit of stretching here and there but I think it should be fine. (famous last words)  I've also used vertex paint to put in some different colours - purely for using as a mask later when I'm working in Substance Painter.

I'm also using another paid addon called Shotpacker - I find this packs the UV islands much more efficiently than Blender can.

Also, renamed everything accordingly - I'm sure Master Kent would be happy to see that 😅

  • Keith (beefkeef) replied

Here's a couple of progress shots of where I'm up to with the texturing, trying to keep it pretty stylized.

I'm thinking that the smoke might be a light source in the final render with some kind of emissive material, not sure yet though - I'll need to take a look when I render it out!

Apologies for showing a picture of the undergarments, I know it's not a pretty sight! 😅

  • Keith (beefkeef) replied

Alright! I think that I'm pretty much done with this one now!

I've spent a bit more time painting in some little details here and there and also decided to do a bit more with the teeth adding a gold one for a bit of variation.

In blender I groomed her gorgeous locks a bit more and added a glowing material to the smoke with a few particles.

I'm playing with the idea of doing a small animation with the camera... not 100% sure though, I will sleep on that!

  • Michael Mirn(michaelmirn) replied

I wonder what is it that she's cooking up? Cause that smoke looks delicious, man!

    Great one, Keith)

  • Keith (beefkeef) replied

I find posting my work in progress to be very helpful, not only for the comments that may come - but it also holds me accountable in some way, and keeps me motivated - which is great!

And so, on to the next project! My wife suggested that I make "something nice for a change"  😅 😅

With that in mind I've settled on trying my hand at making a Norwegian Nisse and found some beautiful art from Kjell Einar Midthun. Nisse are small creatures that live in the house, or the barn. They can help with chores or caring for animals if you are kind to them and give them porridge at Christmas!

Just very rough shapes at the moment, plenty of work to be done and a few decisions to made!

  • Michael Mirn(michaelmirn) replied

I really need to make a character. Off with these dead machines!

  • jammingammon replied

Nice! Always excited to see your latest creations.

  • Peter (ponchismaaan) replied

Wow. Some amazing work in your polybook, Keith. Certainly something to aspire to!
I particularly love this witch. The smoke plumes from the caulden look fantastic.

  • Keith (beefkeef) replied

michaelmirn  I do enjoy seeing your machines though Michael, you definitely do bring life to them! But for sure, I would love to see you make a character in the future too!

jammingammon Thanks, that's great to hear! I'll keep spamming this thread with progress shots 😅
