Hi there!
Welcome to my Polybook where I will post my current work in progress.
Here's a little progress on this fella.
I sculpted the gas coming from his mouth just using the snake hook tool to get the shape. I also tried to give it an "S" curve from the front angle so it doesn't just look like a flat 2D shape.
Also used some of those amazing meat balls to make the drool! :-)
I've also done another sculpting pass on the teeth, gums and body and decided that I'm not going to use Substance for my materials/textures - but rather stay in Blender this time. So I've started giving him some colour now and playing around with the shaders!
It is gorgeous!
Looks like he has eaten lots of cranberries...
I like cranberries!
Excellent work beefkeef
Friggin' GREAT creepy critter beefkeef! You're so authentic to the art. And that gas effect is 🔥
Amazing work, sir!👏👏
OK, I think that I'm finished with the little Zombie guy - I've just added a background colour and tweaked the lighting a bit. Probably, I'll publish him on Halloween.
I've been thinking about trying another artwork by Kevin Keele. I say trying because I'm not sure if I've got the skills to do a good enough rendition of this one - but I'm going to give it a go anyway! Let's see what happens!
Very early blocking out just for now
thanks spikeyxxx ! I'll try my very best to do it justice 👍I really love this artwork so don't want to cock it up 😅
Here's a little update : I've just been blocking in more shapes and thinking about the smoke coming from the pot. I've made that in a few layers to try and give the depth I need, and also it's a bit more manageable to sculpt the smaller pieces. I'm hoping that will look pretty nice with the volume shader - I did a quick simple test just to see .
Just the wood under the pot and that should be all the main elements blocked out - then I can start adding some details! Should be fun
Here's a little update on the pretty witch!
I haven't found that much time in the week to do much useful work - just sculpted a few logs here and there but they didn't come out too good so I'll come back to them and try harder 😅
I did make a pass on the head and neck today - looks quite OK so far I think. I haven't decided how to approach the hair just yet, definitely it could look nice sculpted - but I'm also tempted to use a hair system later.
Next I'll probably make a pass on the skeleton and add some detail there. The witches hands can wait because they won't be easy!
A little more progress this evening, I worked on the skull a bit and started to figure out how the bones should work in the 3D space. I've kept the symmetry on the faces for now but must remember to break it when I do another sculpting pass later!
I need to add some skull teeth and spend some more time making the hand bones, and finger bones - that's the next job! I'm hoping I can just mirror them all over with just a few tweaks to make the other arm.
Thanks Shawn, I appreciate that!
I gave our skeleton friend some teeeef and just a tiny bit more detail on the skull. It's surprising just how much adding those teeth changes the face. I'll definitely come back and give those teeth another pass later!
I also started to work on the hand, just using the skin modifier to give me the rough bone shapes. Gonna change that bone at the end of the finger though, it's a bit too thin and pointy now I'm looking at it again! Must be getting tired 😅
For the palm bones I've just used the crease tool with a sharp fall off to cut in the gaps between each bone, hoping that this will look good enough - rather than doing each bone seperately, seems a bit easier this way.
You always make it look soooo easy. The I love the use of the skin modifier trick though. I'll have to remember that for skeleton bones.
blanchsb The skin modifier is definitely one of my favourites! Once you get used to scaling the points, it's really useful for blocking out lots of different shapes.
Here's a little progress, I was kinda hoping to have this nearly finished for Halloween but the stars did not align for me this time. That's OK though, it's still a fun project to be working on in my spare time.
I sculpted a bit more on those finger bones and then moved on to the arm bones using my trusty skin modifier again! Anatomically, (according to my reference book at least!) those two bones should be crossed over in that position but I'm just following Kevin's artwork. It's a spooky skeleton, that's alive, I don't think realism is high on the agenda here!!!
I've spent a couple of sessions this weekend working on the witches hands. After several failed attempts I think they are looking pretty nice now. I do find hands so hard!
Next, I'm thinking about her stirring spoon/stick, and her clothes. Also not sure if I need to add shoes/feet as they wont be seen in the final render, unless I choose to add a couple of different angles perhaps. Also need to think about her hair...
Here's a couple of logs and a few sticks I made - not really that exciting is it! 😅
Hopefully these will give me enough variation when I place them under the cauldron to make the fire. I didn't go too crazy with detail because I don't expect them to be seen very close up
