Starting this so I can keep myself accountable. I want to get better at 3D modeling and I need an external force to keep me going.
Nothing spectacular, but it's something. The first modeling exercise: https://skfb.ly/68ExD
nekronavt hehe i know i kinda wondered the polish that silentheart mentioned in this sentence
silentheart : Also, small note: there doesn't seem to be a "polish" brush in 2.8. The best I got is flatten, so it'll do for now.
nekronavt hehe np can happen . got that too sometimes :p its been a while since i sculpted but last time in 2.8 i still could smooth out
yyukinoh1989 There's a brush in 2.7 called Polish, and it functions slightly differently than the Smooth brush. The Polish brush kind of planes off the surface at the angle you're looking at versus the overall smoothing affect of the Smooth brush. Try it in 2.7 yourself and see the difference.
silentheart00 All righty, finally had time to take a good look at your sculpts. You're making some nice stuff! I like that you're timing yourself, good way to monitor yourself.
My top 3 out of what you've done so far (in random order):
Keep it up! :)
ssmurfmier1985 Thanks!
Sculpt January, Day 11 - Liquid
Time: 0 hours 20 mins
I hadn't the faintest clue what to do, so I made something simple. Blender 2.8's sculpting tools seem to be less stable than before. Hopefully they'll see that hand fix it up. Sometimes I hit Undo, and it completely undoes the whole sculpt. Luckily I wasn't very far along, but man, it's annoying.
silentheart00 Nice progress.
That undo thing happened to me too a couple of times. It cost me a good amount of time in two days. Hopefully, dev team will fix it soon.
silentheart00 It's good to see you're still going strong with Sculpt January, wish I didn't have these projects to do as I'd be right alongside you, but that doesn't mean I can't cheer you on from the sidelines!
I'd still have to say that Deep Sea is still my favorite, but Speed is a pretty close second. Don't follow Sculpt January particularly closely so I'm looking forward to what the coming days have in store for you, intrigued by what's next!
thecabbagedetective Hey, thanks. Maybe next January, eh? The biggest thing for me was figuring out what I can do in a reasonable time but still being ambitious with it. I'd like to think I'm improving, as well, but it's hard to see when you're in the thick of it. I have some ideas for later ones, too, just have to execute.
@drgnclw Thanks!
Yeah, it's quite annoying to have your work suddenly disappear, which is why I'm constantly saving. At least if you save often enough, you can reload it.
Sculpt January, Day 12 - Staff
Time: 1 hour 38 mins
What if my hexblade was a heavier magic use than a sword user? This would be her staff. Partially, anyway. I like the claw bit, but the other end is kind of weak in a design sense.
silentheart00 nice works again. I just noticed that I cannot open the last one you made. Getting an error page
yyukinoh1989 Ah, thanks for that! I should do these earlier so I'm not making sleepy mistakes. It's updated now.
silentheart00 the staff looks great. Love the design look forward to see more :)
Sculpt January, Day 13 - Empty
Time: 0 hour 29 mins
Something a little different and a little minimalist.
Sculpt January, Day 14 - Flexing
Time: 0 hour 55 mins
Practiced some anatomy courtesy of my SO's arm. The bicep is a little weird, though.
