Starting this so I can keep myself accountable. I want to get better at 3D modeling and I need an external force to keep me going.
Nothing spectacular, but it's something. The first modeling exercise: https://skfb.ly/68ExD
silentheart00 really nice work. It looks so great. It's a successful cleanup
Since everybody is making goals for the new year, I figured I should join the band wagon! Here's my rough plan related to modeling (barring any workshops here =]) for the next 7-ish months until I'm off to grad school.
January
February
March
April
May
June
July
August
All the while watching as many videos as I can. I'm currently in the Creature Modeling for Production in the Modeling in Blender flow, so I should be able to have that all watched in about a week or so, then on to the next course!
Good luck to everyone with their goals! We got this!
silentheart00 that's a pretty detailed plan :) Personally, I never planning in such an accurate pieces. Good luck!
ssmurfmier1985 Thanks!
nekronavt Neither do I, but I know what topics are going to be taught in grad school, so I'd like to get ahead a little bit if I can, especially since it sounds like a very challenging program.
Sculpt January, Day 01 - Deep Sea
Time: 5 hours 31 mins
I actually pulled this from the Beneath the Waves Artstation contest I participated in some time ago. Feels like forever ago, but it's probably about a year lol. This was really too ambitious and I got lazy at the end. But hey, first day down, 30 more to go.
Sculpt January, Day 02 - Delight
Time: 1 hour 33 mins
I originally wanted to model a person with a paintbrush and some paints doing this sort of half dance/half painting the air sort of concept, but I didn't like it, so I made a controller instead. Video games can bring delight to its players, too =]
silentheart00 I'm liking this once sculpt a day thing, definitely something I wanna pursue at some point, just not this month. I especially love the first one. I dunno what it is but the hard, defined curves of the face just look really stylized and cool to me. Keep it up!
thecabbagedetective Thanks! The first one is a concept from another contest, a creature that moves very slowly and takes care of the coral reefs. The hard edges of the face kind of came when I was sculpting, a happy accident that I thought would compliment the softer contours nicely.
Sculpt January, Day 03 - Torso
Time: 1 hour 43 mins
A little backed up, but should be back on track now. A female torso. Man, I need to work on anatomy 😅The stomach's not bad, but man, the skeletal components are kinda bad. Oh well. Three days down, 28 to go.
Sculpt January, Day 04 - Rotten
Time: 2 hours 20 mins
I thought of zombies and other rotten things, but why not something more spoiled rotten, like Princess Morbucks from the Powerpuff girls?
Sculpt January, Day 07 - Speed
Time: 1 hours 46 mins
A bit behind again. Here's Day 07, a jet propelled snail!
silentheart00 really nice work on those sculpts. Fun idea with that snail. Love it
yyukinoh1989 Thanks!
Sculpt January, Day 08 - Jekyll and Hyde
Time: 2 hours 13 mins
A bit behind still. I tried going for an angel/devil kind of idea. Less than successful, I think, because I'm feeling a bit crunched for time.
Sculpt January, Day 09 - Rage
Time: 2 hours 34 mins
All caught up. Thought I would try an animal. Could be better, but at least something's done.
I wonder what that weird shading issue is on the teeth.
Sculpt January, Day 10 - Beard
Time: 1 hours 15 mins
Finally caught up. I actually felt kind of sick today, an upset stomach sort of thing. I also could not for the life of me get to sleep last night so I'm (thankfully) quite tired.
I've noticed my quality went down as I started to get behind, so I'll make more of an effort to stay on track. Oi, time for some well earned sleep.
Also, small note: there doesn't seem to be a "polish" brush in 2.8. The best I got is flatten, so it'll do for now.
