A few more standalone assets that are a slight bump in difficulty. Then learn about the effectiveness of reusable modular assets for street sections.
This is the most difficult chapter that includes traditionally modeled buildings as well as a parametric building with Geometry Nodes. It also high-level techniques for reusable procedural materials and auto-randomization.
Discover the ins and outs of the Blender's library linking functionality, how to use the Asset Browser, assembling your assets into a city, and rendering for maximum appeal.
Let's build a bigger, cooler city together! Follow the course, submit unique assets, and your work can be immortalized in this collection for all time.
I watched all the videos and managed to complete only the lamp. That said, the course is fantastic. Kent does a great job teaching the fundamental skills needed to complete a project in Blender. And yes, a full project—from modeling, files, material, geometry nodes to randomize your models to asset management. Through his workflow, you’ll learn how to reuse materials and models efficiently while keeping your project well-organized.
For future improvements, I’d suggest starting with the street and neighborhood first, then moving on to the lamp. Once these elements are in place, we could assemble a basic city in both day and night modes. Having this foundation would make it easier for beginners to test their models step by step on their own later.
Regardless, a huge thanks to Kent for such a great course! I learned so much from you.
It took me a while to tackle this course because the style of the models is not my cup of tea.
But please, look beyond the low poly cartoony city and start this course anyway. The amount of useful techniques packed into one course is no joke!!
Vertex painting, large libraries management, asset randomization, the parametric variation 🤯
As I was watching the course I could think of dozens of immediate applications to these workflows. I'm stoked.
Seriously, the content here is gold and I'm glad I finally made time for it. 10/10 would recommend this course.
A m a z i n g !
This was my first course on CGCookie, I've been learning Blender on my own for a few months, mainly on youtube, so I was comfortable enough to move inside the soft and to use some of the tools that we see here, and it was so so so valuable to me, my growth-over-time ratio increased by a lot (tho I would not recommend this course if you have never used Blender because it is going to be a bit hard to follow).
One of the things I loved about the course is that Kent explains very thoroughly what we are doing, how it works, and why we do it. From the technical side of the program to the practical side of the real world and what we want to emulate. Going from modelling, to shading, and even geometry nodes. It sounds scary but it is 100% possible going step by step with the course.
Overall it is a fun project, a very enjoyable process, and a very nice final result to brag about with friends :)
10/10 would watch again sometime to consolidate the knowledge
Hope you all enjoy it
Cheers!
