Starting in March 2020, I began a large stream project to model a comprehensive, highly-detailed Caterpillar 434E backhoe. Please watch the first stream (first 3 minutes of abridged version at least) for an overview.
It's a straight-forward project of building a complex model over an extended period of time. The spin on the project is that I want your help to accomplish it! If I build some parts and you build some parts, we will finish this thing much quicker. Plus the contribution format will include reviews, the potential of having your piece(s) assimilated into the final model. Not to mention large quantities of XP are at stake 🤑
NOTE: This is an involved project reserved for Citizen members.
The general idea is that I kickoff stages of the project via live stream, which is typically once per month. For the time in between streams, you choose a piece of the backhoe and apply what you learned from the stream to that piece. For example, the first stream covered initial block out. So between stream 1 and stream 2, your job is to pick a piece and block it out.
This is the repeating protocol for each Assignment Period (between-streams):
I will reply to this thread after each stream with a [big] assignment post denoted by a 📣 emoji in the title. There I will clarify instructions about each Assignment Period.
We will centralize our collaborative communication between the streams and this thread. Ask any and all questions pertaining to the Backhoe project here.
Hello everyone - I'm sorry and disappointed to have to say that too many RL factors came into play this month that combined to take away my free time and I wasn't able to make enough meaningful progress on my part to make it worth submitting a new file. I'm not even fully sure I'll be able to watch the livestream tomorrow, although I'm certainly going to try - I honestly haven't even been able to look in on people's threads so I'm hoping I can see the progress everyone else has made tomorrow.
But rest assured I have NOT quit! I think I will have the last of these RL problems cleared up in less than a week, and at that point it'll be back to business as usual. So I'll just have to do much more work this coming month to get up to 75% completion if that's going to be the assignment, but it's nothing I can't handle when I have the actual time. There's also something weird going on with my subscription, but I've already started a chat question to get help for that.
Serious apologies again, everyone. I suppose the silver lining is that the structural components are already done so nobody else SHOULD, as far as I know, be waiting on me to progress their own work - with the exception of poor Kent, who'll need the hydraulic hoses I'll be modeling to connect with his. Coming up, I promise!
Glad your still with us jakeblended . We all missed you, hope you can make the stream later. RL issues are a priority, always. Hope everything is ok. Your piece of the dog is already in great shape, so no worries there. Stay safe and welcome back to the pound.👍
Totally understandable Jake, there's a lot of RL stuff going around right now.
I didn't make a lo of modeling progress, and I definitely didn't have time for a new reel this time.
Stay safe
"Dock that Jake a weeks pay for sleeping on the job!" (Blazing Saddles)
Haha.
No worries homie. I think everyone here can understand RL is the real deal. If you don't take care of it then you can't take care of business. I hope everything is okay man.
jakeblended I'm just glad to hear you've not quit! Real life taking priority is 100% understandable and no one holds it against you, my man. You've already made serious progress on the swing frame so there's no detriment to my progress. For today's stream my goal is to get hydraulic lines started so indeed we'll work together over the next few weeks so they connect properly to your swing frame 👌
PS: My friends and I use "RL" for "Rocket League" which made your post pretty humorous to me. I was thinking "Hey I get it, that game grabs you and steals all your time." 😅
jakeblended Hang in there, Jake. Hope you can make it for the stream. I'm sure dostovel will save you a cookie or two.
I love it!
We need a guchi pose from Kent today. My goal is catch him naturally in his habitat, doin his thing, then we’ll sell rights to NatGeo.
I know that you asked in the live stream @theluthier Yes the chapters on the saved live stream video were extremely helpful. Going back and watching how to work on certain aspects was so handy rather than trying to find certain parts on my own. I know I went back and re-watched a couple of things last live stream.
Looking forward to kearning more about the beziers with and a couple of the final things. I had to multitask on a work meeting just before the quiz and missed out a little bit. I don't feel like any of that stream was wasted time haha.
The chapters are really helpful, especially on a project like this.
Definitely no wasted time, enjoy Kent’s live stream every time. Always something to learn.
Just downloaded the new version of the Dog (Not a puppy anymore) Looking so good, I'm impressed with everyone's effort on this project. 👍
Credit to @theluthier for such a great collaboration project leader. 🦸♂️
That live stream chapters was great also. I definitely have found them useful. Thank you @thelutheir and all staff for your hard work!
The Chapter system you introduced in the video is really nice approch to segment the topics in the video. Thanks for the extra efforts you @theluthier have spent to make it happen.
@theluthier When does our XP get added for this weeks submissions? I'm not complaining but just noticed it hasn't been added this week so far.
