With the upcoming release of Blender 2.8 (approx 6 weeks according to Blender.Today) we are trying to put together a list of useful trouble shooting tips for new users to 2.8 and we could use your help.
Have you already been using 2.8 and found yourself scratching your head or trying to figure out a seemly simple thing but it took you HOURS to solve?
Wouldn't it be nice if you helped someone avoid the same trap you fell into.
Well not the "Hey where has this button has moved" type of stuff, we're already all over that.
We're talking more like "My collection is hidden and greyed out but the eyeball icon says it visible - what's going on!?"
Turns out that you have the collection "disabled" in the viewport, but that toggle isn't visible in the outliner because that filter is not enabled.
Or "Weight paint mode no longer has the coloured weights visible when painting."
This is now an 'overlay' feature and when you opened your old 2.7 file that setting just happens to be disabled. (but in a new file it is enabled)
We have noticed a few weird behaviors can happen when you open old files.
If you have a tip, or have stumbled over a weird problem that should have been easy to solve, especially when opening your old files, then let us know!
We'd like to be able to help others and stop them from beating their head against a brick wall.
Ah come on, you're too nice Wayne.
That was a cool read, I didn't know that's how all that works. I wish I was all in like that in the whole Blender ecosystem, I guess one day when money is not all that important at all.
Alright alright, a little bit might have been left behind in my pocket, but I'm keeping it.
Why don't you start deleting a little thing here, a little bit there, maybe swap a model, until it no longer resembles the client job and maybe the glitch will still be there and you can send the .blend to devs for them to work their magic.
weightpainting
I noticed that when I reduce the vertexgroups and excidentially delete one that has weights- Blender crashes.
Especially when you rig grease pencil stuff.
Hi @greyhoenix,
A crash is always a bug.
If you can reproduce it make a short video and report a bug.
Just go to the help menu in Blender and click on report a bug. But also do a quick search while you are there in case it has already been reported. If it has, attach your details and description to that report. If it hasn't been reported already, then add your video, description and the file to a new report.
(you can simplify the file to be whatever makes the bug present)
Then you can sit back and enjoy the feeling that you have helped the developers bring us this awesome software.
A crash is not a bug if it occurred due to pressing ctrl-q or the X button.
I'm working on the rocket ship course right now, and it seems as if the cone breaks if I breathe on it. Almost everything I do involving it causes the particles to ignore it.
Anyone else having issues with sculpting?
I am running v2.81.16 and whenever I sculpt , If I CTRL Z to undo then whichever brush I am using reverts back to the draw brush at the top of the list. So every time I undo , I then have to re-select the last brush I was using which is very frustrating. I'm assuming it is a bug but there are that many ways to customise and tweak Blender these days that I am wondering if I have just clicked something by accident?
Thanks :)
I've not experienced that specific issue but undo is still wacky for me, as it's been since 2.81. For example if I make 2 annotation strokes in sculpt mode and undo twice, it undoes the second stroke, skips the first stroke, and starts undoing whatever came before the annotations..
Thanks Kent , I'll assume its a bug and hope it is fixed with the next release.
Sorry Wayne , I should have said that I had reported it. Hopefully it will be fixed soon :)
