With the upcoming release of Blender 2.8 (approx 6 weeks according to Blender.Today) we are trying to put together a list of useful trouble shooting tips for new users to 2.8 and we could use your help.
Have you already been using 2.8 and found yourself scratching your head or trying to figure out a seemly simple thing but it took you HOURS to solve?
Wouldn't it be nice if you helped someone avoid the same trap you fell into.
Well not the "Hey where has this button has moved" type of stuff, we're already all over that.
We're talking more like "My collection is hidden and greyed out but the eyeball icon says it visible - what's going on!?"
Turns out that you have the collection "disabled" in the viewport, but that toggle isn't visible in the outliner because that filter is not enabled.
Or "Weight paint mode no longer has the coloured weights visible when painting."
This is now an 'overlay' feature and when you opened your old 2.7 file that setting just happens to be disabled. (but in a new file it is enabled)
We have noticed a few weird behaviors can happen when you open old files.
If you have a tip, or have stumbled over a weird problem that should have been easy to solve, especially when opening your old files, then let us know!
We'd like to be able to help others and stop them from beating their head against a brick wall.
@jlampel Thanks!
What do you mean by view layers? I'm still getting to grips with 2.8 and working through the transitioning to 2.8 course. I understand collections now , but I'm not sure what you mean by "view layers"
frikkr This should help!
Is anybody else only seeing two pages of this topic now? There used to be about 13 pages but now I can only see 2.
The screenshot below shows what I see at the bottom of the first page :
frikkr Yeah they updated the forum, all replies are embedded now into the original post..
Ahh thanks , I see that now.
If I could suggest a further update - it would be good to have the pages buttons at the top of the page too so that you dont have to scroll right down to the bottom of the first page every time you want to read the last post on a topic that is more than one page long :)
@jlampel that worked thanks! , the composite output node had been disconnected - presumably in the transition to Blender 2.8
Fixed now though , big thanks.
Or a ‘jump to last page’ button! Have been requesting that for a while now 😇
But frikkr suggestion is just as good and probably easier to implement!!
@wesburke I do wish all the replies weren’t so hidden.. that’s the downside of embedding, you can’t see them right away it’s easy to miss things.. 🙁
Awesome! They did the ‘page buttons at the top’ and ‘unhiding replies’ thing!! 😃🙌🏻
And now that messages gets embedded, there probably needs to be some kind of indicator to which messages are new. If there are 10 pages, and someone replies to something on page 8, most people will probably never see it, unless they painstakingly go through each page checking the date. Unless there already is an indicator and I've missed it.
I don't know if it's a temporary glitch, a delay or something got broken when implementing the new forum.. but even though I was mentioned in the above post, I never got a notification about it. I only received a notification that my previous post got a like.
thebergh That bug has been popping up for at least a year, most times tagging works but sometimes it doesn’t.. Dennis the web dev guy has looked at it several times. I guess it’s just something that’s difficult to track down what the cause is..
Oh really? I had no idea. First time I noticed it to be honest. But then again, I post less than most of you. Although this time I got a notification. And as someone doing desktop application programming in my spare time, I know how difficult it can be to find those pesky bugs at times. And since it doesn't seem to happen all that often (!?), I wouldn't consider it a crucial bug.
ssmurfmier1985 I thought that it had to do with where the tag is; you only get a notification when the tag is at the beginning of a paragraph, or maybe sentence...
But that's probably not it if Dennis has already looked at it;)
Why not just make an experiment to see if it's the case? Anything to lessen the workload for Dennis.
