yyukinoh1989 Funny you mention that, the first thing my Mother said when she saw it was "Why are there two lamps in the reflection?" Glass seems like such a pain in the behind to get right lol. But thank you! Took me about 3 hours to do both not including rendering. Looking forward to seeing yours as well!

thecabbagedetective Hehe guess i was not the only one then . well i think right now its more like a mirror then glass . not sure how to adjust that of course xD i still am learning so much.
thank you i did both bedrooms already (they are in the tread) and still am struggling with the toy .
waiting for kent to answer the question since i have a problem already in the class tread . somehow its strange how things arent the same when following everything from a tutorial :(
and damn only 3 hours xD but then again i guess soon ill speed up with this too. have to be patience in time ill can only get better and faster :D

thecabbagedetective I'm loving the bedroom! Especially the pillows they stand out, great job! Just curious, the weasel in the picture frame, was that one of the references you used for your weasel sculpt you did some time ago? It's really cute 😊

Question about the truck, I now see you changed the direction in which the floor goes, was wondering what the reasoning behind this is? I ask this 'cause before the lines go towards the truck, which is a composition trick to help focusing on the subject (directional lines), suck you into the picture so to speak. As now the lines go away from the subject which draws attention away from the truck.

Loving the colors and mood of the robot teaser, really like it! And your memory card is shaping up nicely.

Awesome job this week Aaron! You keep improving at an impressive rate 😄

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

ssmurfmier1985 Yeah it was lol, but it was so cute and I had no other pics that would fit so I had to use it! Also dang didn't even notice that, changed it! Though now something seems a little... off, not sure what it is. Maybe it was just because I was so used to it being the other way around. Overall thank you! You're doing pretty damn good yourself, see ya next stream!

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

yyukinoh1989 I answered your question, hopefully that'll give you a push in the right direction.

But yeah, when you first start something always prioritise being precise and being correct over being fast, with repetition the speed will come. I'm still a slow poke when it comes to certain things and I'll still got a lot to learn, but you've been progressing at an impressive rate so keep it up!

  • smurfmier1985 replied

thecabbagedetective Thank you for the compliment 😊

Maybe the scale is off? I think the floor planks should be wider, considering this is a small toy truck. At least that's what my gut feeling is telling me..

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

ssmurfmier1985 Hmm, you may have a point. I redid it and it looks much better so cheers for that!

  • smurfmier1985 replied

thecabbagedetective Yeah that looks a lot better, awesome 😬

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

Also this is completely unrelated to everything but I posted this in the Discord server (which y'all should join btw) a while back and meant to post it here, but turns out you can't get triple digit notifications. I'm sad to say that CG Cookie is now completely unusable and this must be rectified ASAP.

Thank you for your time, and now back to Blender.

thecabbagedetective That's the best looking bedroom I've seen posted in this exercise. No question about it. I was aiming to have an exclusive truck party in my... erm... livestream thing, but this is so good it needs to be in there. The colours, the mood... splendidly done. :-)

  • Pavel Mazanik(nekronavt) replied

thecabbagedetective what can I say... You rock, man 🙂 And Suzanne easter egg 😀👍

  • smurfmier1985 replied

nekronavt thecabbagedetective Wow I totally missed the Suzanne Easter egg, lol! 😆

I think the main problems with the robot arm are:

    1.  It isn't shiny enough.

    2.  It needs to be brighter.

    3.  It needs dirt and scratches.

    4.  The lighting should be more plain; exotic lighting just makes it look weird unless it has context (such as the rest of the robot).

    5.  The background should be different.  I'm not quite sure how, though.

  • Kent Trammell replied

You always put 110% effort. You're nuts!

Are you using Eevee on the toy truck render? I'm seeing some non-cycles evidence where the wheels aren't casting believable shadows on the floor:

The wheels end up looking like they're floating.

I don't think I've ever seen someone texture the simple bedroom. Both day and night turned out pretty well! My only real note on the daytime scene is that the pillows look plastic-y when I would expect them to be diffuse fabric. It's got a great mood to it in general though.

The night scene is a little dark imo. We know from the day scene that there's a lot that's hidden in the dark which is sad.

I gotta give you the A++ for effort this week. You always go above and beyond. Don't burnout again though! The ++'s aren't worth that 😅

  • Wilco Wilbrink(carrotnl) replied

thecabbagedetective Wow! Love your daytime bedroom textured scene. Great mood! Me to didn't see the hidden Susanne until Miranda mentioned it. I just gotta ask: are you British? 😊

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

shiennar  You flatter me, thank you! Sorry about throwing a spanner in the works though lol, glad to hear you're doing the slideshows again though!

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

nekronavt Ayy someone noticed it! And thank you very much, it's appreciated!

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

williamatics Alrighty, lets get in depth:

    1. You think? If I remember correctly the roughness is at like 0.2, but it does still look rather plastic-y, I admit. Odd.

    2. This seems to have been a pretty common criticism throughout the week, but I'm not sure if I can sacrifice the mood any more, and it's meant to be dark and brooding but obviously bright enough so you can see what's actually there.

    3. Absolutely! Though fortunately the arm is merely a WIP that's meant to tease a different project, so they're definitely going to get added.

    4. You really think so? I personally quite like the lighting. Though you definitely have a point about context, which the finished render definitely will have.

    5. Yeah I have to agree, seems a bit bland maybe?

I really appreciate your in-depth feedback, so thanks for that! I'll certainly take what you said on board.

thecabbagedetective Commenting to keep my place.  Great work like always.

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

@theluthier You're too kind, ta very much! But nope, everything you see was rendered in Cycles in 2.79 (mwahahaha). I've re-rendered it, decreasing the HDRI lighting and decreasing the floor's normal map strength (it was like 20 for some reason) and I think it looks better? Maybe I could change the light size too?

I hear what you're saying with the pillows too, I was trying to go for a nylon look as nylon pillows tend to be rather shiny (though not that shiny) but they also tend to be a bit more rigid (iirc) so they wouldn't have as many wrinkles. I tried applying a fabric texture but it looked rather dark, but maybe that's what I shoulda been aiming for. Speaking of dark you have a point with the night time scene, I was trying something a little different by only having one light on but I guess I sacrificed too much in an attempt to be different.

Overall I very much appreciate your feedback and I thank you for your time!
