BC1-1808 Homework, Pavel Mazanik

Collaborations

My homework thread for the  August 2018 Class

So here we are.

For "Model with primitives" I have two submissions. First is the one I made while watching "Blender Mesh Modeling Bootcamp" in 2.79. Here it is

And the second one I made in attempt to get in touch with 2.8. You know this phun about how ships in bottles are made? Parts and glue are thrown into and bottle and shaken. Sometimes result is trash, sometimes a ship. I hope this one is closer to ship :D

    nekronavt Your self portrait turned out brilliantly! LOVE the final lighting. And I can tell it's you; rocking some likeness points. A++ for the week 👊

  • Pavel Mazanik(nekronavt) replied

    @theluthier hell yeah! A++ :) Thank you.

    nekronavt Great bust sculpt! You can 3D print it for your living room.

  • Pavel Mazanik(nekronavt) replied

    swikni thanks. I thought about it, but my wife think that it will be weird :D

  • Zsolt Cseh(csehz) replied

    BFG division in headphones creates a certain mood and inspiration. WIP for week 4

    Sadly, I'm forced to copy this mesh to 2.79, since I'm planning to do retopo and continue with multi-res. And multi-res isn't working in 2.8 yet. I'm so in love with 2.8 matcaps...

  • Kent Trammell replied

    nekronavt You're off to a great start with this new creature. And YES aren't the 2.8 matcaps soooo much nicer than 2.7x..I find myself modeling production work in 2.79 and doing screengrabs with 2.8 matcaps to show clients ha.

    Anyhoo, it looks like another impressive character/creature is coming in hot. I hope retopo goes well! It's the right choice for maximum detail potential.

  • Pavel Mazanik(nekronavt) replied

    @theluthier Thank you :)

    Retopo goes meditative so far

  • Kent Trammell replied

    nekronavt "Meditative" is a great word for it. Some find it boring and redundant but I find it therapeutic. And since it's such a useful option I'm happy to jam music for a couple hours and get lost in retopoland.

    PS: Your retopo is progressing nicely 👍

  • Pavel Mazanik(nekronavt) replied

    Just feet and hands are left to retopo and I'm ready for multi-res sculpt. Probably I'll try to texture paint him, but not sure if I'll do it before deadline

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

    nekronavt I remember retopo-ing my scorpion mech thing from last class thinking how tedious it was and then I look at this... bravo, sir.

  • yukino hatake(yukinoh1989) replied

    nekronavt wow this is so good. i love it. just a question during retopo arent you not lossing details like where the ribs are? not that its bad but i am kinda curious since you put a lot of work in the details but then they arent there anymore. or will they come back later if its finished.  again really great work

  • Pavel Mazanik(nekronavt) replied

    thecabbagedetective thank you :D

    yyukinoh1989 thank you. Yes, you are right, I'm loosing some details, but there is a trick - you can add shrinkwrap over multires modifier later and "bake" dyntopo details to multires. And it won't affect the base mesh, shrinkwrap will be stored in multires data. Or you can just recreate those details manually.

    Here is final retopo by the way. Warming up for multires detail sculpting.

    And this is the example of how you can return your details
