Polybook - Thibault Caradec

Hello there, welcome to my beginner Polybook. Let's hope it will be a long and learning journey with you here!

Hard to tell from just the screenshots, Thibault, but at least you should not have a Solidify Modifier(and probably also not your Bevel Modifier) before (above) a Shrinkwrap Modifier!

If re-ordering you Modifiers doesn't help, please post a link to your .blend file (via Dropbox or so) for troubleshooting.

  • Thibault Caradec(otowa) replied

Thank you for your help spikeyxxx .

It looks indeed better with the modifier change you suggested, thank you!

I still find that the trad looks very artificial, especially on this outer part... Hmm...

  • spikeyxxx replied

    ...looks very artificial

that is mainly because in reality the treads are part of the tire (one piece of rubber), but with this shrinkwrap method it is like the treads are 'glued' on the tire...

  • Thibault Caradec(otowa) replied

spikeyxxx Yeah I just looked at some youtube tutorials and they don't use this technique and it looks better. But I guess I'll stick with this for this model. From the distance it won't be noticeable I guess...

The front of the car starts to come together.

    Advices needed!

    Hello there.

First thing, the car didn't progress much this week-end, just got the doors made (to be fair, I struggled with topology a lot)

As I commute by train everyday and the car topology is too much for my laptop to handle, I started a side project inspired by concept art from Randy Hagmann (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/5rGDA)

I'm considering giving the bot a "real" moustache (made of broom fibers for example) using a particle system. Which tutorial would you recommend me for such a task?

    Thank you and see ya!

You could try Styling and Rendering Realistic Hair by @theluthier , Its an older course, Blender v2.66, but your an experienced user. I am sure you could adapt it to your needs.

  • Thibault Caradec(otowa) replied

Thank you @adrian2301 I will look at it. Not sure about the "experienced user" though... ^^

  • Ingmar Franz(duerer) replied

    Wow, excellent work 😀👍!

  • Ingmar Franz(duerer) replied

    Really cool work 😎👍!

otowa Your "Deux Chevaux" is already looking good 😀👍! I'm looking forward to see your further progresses and of course the finished car 😀!

PS: I've found this "post-apocalyptic" version of your car 😉😁.

  • Thibault Caradec(otowa) replied

    Thank you!

  • Thibault Caradec(otowa) replied

    Thank you!

For a second you scared me. I liked the idea that I couldn't find 3D model of a post-apocalyptic 2CV. Nice to see I'm still the first one ^^. (People did in in miniature, though... http://www.modelypse.com/public/uploads/images/thumbs/maquette-2cv-apocalyptique.JPG

  • Thibault Caradec(otowa) replied

That's when you start to assemble everything that it gets super tough... Working on the exterior main body and damn that's some topology challenge for me...

Motivation going down... May work on some low poly for distraction.

  • Ingmar Franz(duerer) replied

otowa I know this problem to well from the 2020 "Backhoe" collaboration here on CG Cookie. Maybe you could post close-up views of the model with wireframe overlays and ask for help?

  • Thibault Caradec(otowa) replied

Thank you duerer , but I'm just complaining ^^.

It will be ok, but I just need a small break from this 2CV for at least a few days.

  • Peter (ponchismaaan) replied

Very cool! Love the personal spin on it!

  • Thibault Caradec(otowa) replied

Finally found a good reference and modelled "hands" for my steampunk robot project... Now just the lower half is remaining... Almost there!

  • Ingmar Franz(duerer) replied

otowa I very much like that steampunk style 😀! Nice idea with the robot! Will it be rigged?

  • Ingmar Franz(duerer) replied

otowa Excellent work on the industrial environment 👍! And a 2CV in the underground parking garage would for sure be a pretty sight 😉! Maybe, your 2CV project will see a comeback 😉?! I'm sure you have learned a lot from it since your model is already looking good at that early stage 😀👍!
