Collaborations

The story goes, that when admiral Nelson was shot at the battle of Trafalgar, it was decided to bury him at land and to conserve his body, it was put in a barrel of rum. Now the ordinary seamen didn't know about this and went on with their custom to drill a small hole in the barrel and suck out the rum through a straw.

Since then, in sailor's slang, rum is called 'Nelson's blood'.

I've been using Blender for about six years and still have never modelled a barrel; time to change that.

thecabbagedetective Thank you Aaron. Lighting this is definitely the most difficult thing for me and wouldn't have come this far without all the help I have been getting!

I wanted to add dust particles in the air, but so far I haven't been able to do that with Eevee. I will give it another try, because I agree that that would looks great.

(I am so tempted to make this look somewhat realistic.... I have to remind myself all the time, that this is supposed to be stylized!)

  • Kaj Suominen(louhikarme) replied

spikeyxxx looking great!in comp you can try more saturated values.

  • spikeyxxx replied

    louhikarme Thanks Kaj!

I immediately had to try that and slightly more saturation does improve the image.

Finally managed to get some dust particles in the god rays!

Got the idea, because Kaj was talking about compositing, to add them in post-processing, with the help of some masks.

    This is the result:

I think I will call the lighting good for now and start working on the shaders...

  • spikeyxxx replied

Did some work on the shaders.

Not finished yet, but I think it looks better.

Probably leave it at that for today and complete it tomorrow...

The Nun is giving me a hard time and keeps complaining, but she gets things done in the end;)

  • Kaj Suominen(louhikarme) replied

spikeyxxx you could try to extend the left orange gradient towards the pillar. like half way.

  • spikeyxxx replied

louhikarme Thanks Kaj, I will try that, although I am not sure if that will work...Unless, I put in a third point light to do that job...

Let's see what can be done.

  • odunov replied

spikeyxxx Result's on fire! It also looks like there's a bit of fire going on in the ship :D It's looking good, though.

  • spikeyxxx replied

    @drgnclw Thanks a lot dragon!

Happy with the moonlight, but will probably change the 'candle lights' a bit when I finished the shading...It's close, but not there yet;)

    Homework Submission Week 3

Had a lot of fun and learned a lot.

Thanks Kent for this Class and thanks to the Community for all the help and support I have been getting!

I will let the image speak for itself;)

clintjohnson Thank you Clint! That means a lot to me.

spikeyxxx Aww thanks Spikey ☺️ But it’s your skills and knowledge that applied everyone’s feedback so don’t cut yourself short, you did amazing work this class! 🤘🏻😎

  • Kent Trammell replied

spikeyxxx You've put in so much work this month, Spikey. Both as a VA and a participant. Your interior project really came full circle. I can practically see Capt. Barbossa stepping down the stairs in his skeletal moonlight form:

My only note for this final submission is that the dust in the air feels more like render noise than dust. It's a little to even and consistent. I think breaking that up into isolated pockets of dust will sell the effect better. Like this:

It's a small note. You've earned an A+ easily. And one more time, THANK YOU for being  a rockstar VA this month!

  • spikeyxxx replied

    @theluthier Thanks a lot Kent!

You're absolutely right about the dust; I was so happy that I finally found a way to add the dust (in the compositor, couldn't get it to work in Eevee), that I completely forgot about that;)

Thanks again, it was a great Class, I learned a lot and had a lot of fun!

  • spikeyxxx replied

Tried to get some variation in the dust, like Kent suggested, which is a lot harder in the Compositor than doing something like this in the Shader Editor!

Not totally convinced by the result, but it's an improvement;)

This is what the node set up looks like:

spikeyxxx thanks for sharing nodes. I like seeing how people got certain effects. Scene looks great and believable.
