DKG's 3d ArtBook

Polybooks

So far, Iโ€™ve gone through the Basics course twice, then revised the Gamepad course twice too โ€” really wanted to make sure I didnโ€™t miss anything. Now Iโ€™m moving into the Core Fundamentals series, and Iโ€™m ready to level up my skills.ย
I created this topic to:
Track my progress over time.ย
Share renders, notes, and thoughts.
Stay motivated and connected with the community.
Iโ€™m still new (just a couple of months in), but Iโ€™m trying to be consistent, and I really want to grow as a 3D artist. Feedback is always welcome!
Letโ€™s go! ๐Ÿš€

Okay, so Iโ€™ve completed this vintage rotary phone model today.
As usual, Martin and Omar helped me a lot. Well, I canโ€™t say this time that I made this model completely without watching a tutorial, because I had no idea how to make the coil cord so I had to check that on YouTube. I also watched a quick 5-second video just to figure out how to arrange the dial holes evenly. The method was simple, but I was getting confused, so I had to take a quick look.
    Any feedback guys?intage telephone.png

    • Very nice! ๐Ÿค˜

I guess the only note is that the bottom of the phone base looks low poly compared to the rest of the phone. You can see the stepping in the geometry.ย

    Nice! Lots of cool details.

First of all, thanks again Martin and Omar for helping me out with another prop! ๐Ÿ™ Here it is โ€” I finally managed to make it the way I wanted, just like in the reference image, and even added some extra details too. Didnโ€™t need any tutorials this time either! ๐ŸŽ‰
    What do you guys think?

Feeling much better today โ€” and I finally finished this model! ๐Ÿ˜Œ Core course lessons helped a lot with edge adjustments after the Boolean workflow. Big Thanks to Jonathan Lampel (Awesome Teacher ๐Ÿ‘Œ)My ddrfek tup.png

What do you guys think? This one took me more time than any of my previous models.
I used to be afraid of the Boolean workflow, especially when it came to adjusting edges afterwards โ€” and this model had a lot of those. But it gave me great practice, and I feel like Iโ€™ve kinda overcome that fear (Well not fully haha). ๐Ÿ’ช
Iโ€™m honestly proud of how it turned out.
With this model done, Iโ€™ve also completed one of my biggest milestones yet โ€” finishing my full detective desk setup! ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธMy dek tup.png
Iโ€™m really eager to hear your thoughts on it!
This is also my last model before I hit 4 months in Blender โ€” time really flies! ๐Ÿ˜„
Big thanks to Omar and Martin for always being there to help whenever I needed it โ€” and this time was no exception. ๐Ÿ™
Also, thanks gradyp and thehomme for the super useful tips!

    That looks absolutely fantastic!

    Awesome work, Deb๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

  • Omar Domenech replied

Wow that is a lot of good looking models there, that is a lot of work that went into that.ย

Now you have to go for the art side of things and make some good renders out of them. Set up lights, camera angles, go for the good shots and materials to make an appealing visual render.ย

  • thehomme replied

Wow I think this looks great. Such a smart idea to model a series of objects that integrate into a single scene. You'll have to unwrap and texture all this now :)

  • Deb kanta Guin(AgainstTheFlow) replied

Ohh, I didnโ€™t notice your messages earlier โ€” thank you so much, Martin, Omar, and thehomme! ๐Ÿ’›
I was sick again, so I couldnโ€™t work on Blender or check messages for a while. Iโ€™m feeling a bit better now and finally caught up with what you guys said.
Omar, thanks a lot for your suggestion. What I was thinking is that Iโ€™ll first complete the challenge Jonathan Lampel gave us after the Core Modeling course โ€” to create 30โ€“50 objects and make an isometric room. Since that part of the course focuses only on modeling, I want to build a strong foundation there first before moving on to other things.
As I continue learning more sections of the course (like lighting, materials, and texturing), Iโ€™ll apply those directly to these same objects โ€” that way Iโ€™ll get consistent, hands-on practice. But if you guys think I should tweak this plan a bit, please let me know โ€” Iโ€™d really love to hear your opinions.
Also, I finished a simple model today. Itโ€™s full of n-gons, but I used bevels and the Weighted Normal modifier to fix some shading issues. Itโ€™s just a flat piece, so I went with basic modeling this time. Here is my vintage cabinet, yes u can open the doors and the drawer haha.

Thanks again, Martin, Omar, and thehomme โ€” you guys are the best! ๐Ÿ™

    • Awesome ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿป
  • thehomme replied

It's completely up to you and really it depends on your goal. Keep modelling if that's all your interested in but I'd extend and test yourself by trying to UV unwrap and texture one of your models - the desk should be fairly easy and is a big object in the scene. The telephone or the radio will be harder but not too hard. The fundamentals of texturing is longer but better than the equivalent Core course

That sounds like a solid plan to me, Deb!

And I think it's a good thing to get some N-Gon modeling in there as well๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
