I've decided to start my own polybook, because I realized that if I create a new thread for every project I started, it would quickly clutter up the forum. So without further ado, here is Prismarine Alley.
Here are the barrels.
Right now, I am trying to solve the dilemma of rendering a smoke simulation as fog. So far, I can either make the whole domain render as solid smoke, or I can make it invisible. What I want is for it to only show up where there is smoke.
I have also been working on the truck from the post-apocalyptic vehicle course.
Eureka! I know how to add variation to the ground (or anything, really) and remove that ugly tiling!
I'll create a separate UV map that is the same shape as the ground, and I'll paint a mask on it in Krita. Then, I'll download several more dirt textures and layer them on top of each other using the mask!
It's almost done! All I need to add now is the fog, the transition between the ground and the wall, and a proper lighting setup.
I know I said it's almost done, but I just decided to add an abandoned* cart with a few sacks of grain in it.
*I'm bad at modeling humans.
williamatics You can just do a skin modifier that follows the armature skeleton. It doesn't need to be detailed.
@cgcookiedough I'll try it, and if it looks terrible, I won't include it.
As you probably know, I am participating in the 30 days of modeling event. Here is my sofa from day 1. For some reason, I forgot that they have legs even though they were clearly visible in all of my reference images.
Here is my lamp, which I like better. I wish I had made it taller, though.
Here is the bookshelf for day three. It's not perfect, but at least it doesn't have a major flaw like the last two did. Ironically, the Bible resting inside it was actually harder to model than the bookshelf itself.
Here are days four and five.
Should I stop putting these here, since they're already in the 30 days of modeling thread, or should they stay?
williamatics you're doing great! I would say keep posting them here if you want. Polybook is your work to look back on at anytime. Where as the challenge thread will eventually get buried when it's over and unpinned.
williamatics Great stuff - I'm sure you'll get the fog work sorted out for Prismarine Alley!
I asked a question in the 30 Days of Modeling thread, but it didn't get answered, so I'll ask it here: What is the best topology for a cylinder sticking out of another cylinder? Simply insetting the face doesn't work, as seen here:
williamatics With the subdivision workflow try either by insetting or using the knife tool a make sure the cut looks like something like this so you keep it quad-consistent.
Then you can extrude and support the edges you wish to be supported to adjust their sharpness.
Hope that helps.
