September Live Critiques - Submit Your Blender Art!

Kent Trammell

This September, all Blender Live Events will be dedicated to community critiques. That means each week in September we will select a few Citizen Pro members' Blender projects to critique live during a stream.

If you would like the focused eyes and insight of Kent and Jonathan Lampel to help push your Blender Art to the next level, please submit one of your projects to this thread. Both of us specialize in modeling, texturing, shading, and lighting but I may try to convince Wayne Dixon to guest-host an animation critique...

Instructions for Submission:

NOTE: While all Citizen members have access to watch these live critique sessions, only Citizen Pro Submissions are eligible for critique. And you must be an active PRO member during the time of the stream too ;)

  1. Post an image to this thread representing your Blender Project.
  2. Optionally, if you have multiple images, post a link to your project on cgcookie.com.
  3. If there's anything specific about your project or your skills that you would like insight on, please type a brief description in your post as well.

So cool and exciting! Here is my submission for the critique: https://cgcookie.com/u/michalzisman/projects/black-widow-2183f554-e805-4e11-a1a9-ee887806f6cb My main concern is the lighting, but I'm open to critique on other aspects of this artwork. Thanks!

  • Kent Trammell replied

Excellent - Thanks for submitting michalzisman!

It was my first ever project in both Blender and 3D in general and 2 years on I have always wanted to revisit with what I know now, so it would be great to get some direction from you guys as what I can focus on to improve it.

Thanks for offering this opportunity @theluthier and @jlampel

    Thanks Kent!

I'd like to submit my results from the Piero Project tutorial. If you have any insights into improving the appeal of the character design, the quality of the feather textures, or just how faithfully the methods from your tutorial were reproduced, I'd love to hear them! I produced this render just a week or two ago, so it's a recent project.

Thanks and I look forward to the live critique streams!

Hi, thanks a lot for this opportunity.

I would like to submit this project : Abandoned Warehouse

I will appreciate harsh and/or nitpicking critiques so don't be affraid to hurt my feelings haha. ^^

On the other hand I would also appreciate to be notified on what notions/aspects you think are good and acquired.

Looking forward to seeing all of the live critiques.

Two questions.... Can it be an old artwork? Also I'm a bit lost now with all the Citizen and Citizen Pro name callings. In the olden days it was just Citizen, now there is like another level with the Pro thingy... is it like a level 2 for Citizen? Is it like there is a normal account, then there is Citizen and then there is Citizen Pro?

  • Kent Trammell replied

If there is still time I would like to submit this slime character that I rendered using Blender Internal. It is my first finished character and I would like to hear feedback about the shading and lighting mostly but I am open to any critiques that could help me improve.

  • Kaj Suominen(louhikarme) replied

dang it, hopefully you are revisiting this later. life decided to throw a curve ball and need to make repairs to house.

  • silentheart00 replied

I'd like to get some critiques, as well! https://cgcookie.com/u/silentheart00/projects/demonic-wings-concept.

I hope to develop this more before the stream, but if not, then if you have any advice on how to polish it up would be appreciated.

  • Kent Trammell replied

Very cool rrichm! Do you have a turntable video of the model rendered this way?

  • Kent Trammell replied

Submitting this, my first big modelling challenge. I will be adding more detail to the model. So I will update the screen shots.

I've been working on this bedroom scene for a few months off and on. Still have a bit left to do, which I'll probably work on between now and the time of the critiques anyway, but  would still appreciate feedback.  For the final, I plan on doing 3 or 4 shots to show off the room, but any suggestions would help.
