This is my thread documenting my progress in the Collab2021 project -- more to come (soon!)
@lexicolopolis My first bake was wrong because I changed the Level Viewport to 7 in the Multires. Apparently you have to keep that on 0.😉
lucky Oh, all I needed to do was use the normal map node instead of directly linking the image into the normal shader slot. Thank you, I knew it would be something dumb. I haven't used a normal map since like... 2016. Hahah
@lexicolopolis I didn't even see that..... 😁, but still, use non-color instead of RGB 👍
lucky Though I don't see any option for non-color anywhere. Though it seems to be working fine.
lucky Ah sweet thanks! Even though I had it saved form earlier it was greyed out til I saved again.
@lexicolopolis Good luck with sculpting, there are many pieces to sculpt..... 😅
lucky ....so many... Thats why I was trying to figure out a fast method that looked alright. Just drawing lines with mask is probably where I'm heading for all the boards. I only have like... 20ish objects to sculpt by Sunday night. lol
@lexicolopolis lucky This subthread makes me happy: From the quality of the sculpting to the troubleshooting between peers. YOU MAKE THIS PROJECT GREAT 🤝
@lexicol , lucky agree with Kent. Great job with the troubleshooting and helpful as well. golden stars for you ;)
I am so busy getting my sculpting under control that my brain is already blurry.
@theluthier lucky Well now I can't figure out how to get multires to smooth UVs. I did it somehow ONCE, and now it refuses to do it. Is there something special you have to do in order to get the UVs to smooth with the modifier?
mmonaloren Oh, my brain is melted. Once I get this working right and I can just sculpt and bake without issues I'll feel soooooo much better.
lucky The deformation stretched at 2 of the seams. Earlier I clicked through the smooth UV options on the Multires modifier, and it was responsive, and fixed the issue. So I was jazzed and decided to sculpt a bit more. Reloaded back to the file where I hadn't changed anything, sculpted, and baked, and I can't get it to work again.
@lexicolopolis My workflow is sculpt highpoly, match lowpoly to the highres. UV unwrap the lowpoly, put seams on every hard edge. Bake maps and your done. I don't use the option smooth UV.
lucky im not exactly sure why its warping those two spots. It's just frustrating because i definitely toggled those settings and it changed my bakes. But now its not changing the bakes. Which is mystifying. I probably just need sleep.
lucky Ok I figured it out. In 2.92 i think theyre defaulted on anyway. But you have to have view to 1 for them to do anything. Was baking at 0 view.
@theluthier They're actually just always greyed out for me if I have a subdivision. Even if they're working. And you can change them while they're greyed out. It's bizarre. They also apparently removed the option to toggle between simple and catmull-clark with 2.92. But from what I've read multires in Blender has been a pretty big mess until recently. So this chaos doesn't surprise me.
But the problem was just that view has to be 1 not 0, or the smoothing settings don't get used.
