You know that cute little plane from the Introduction to Hard Surface Modeling course? Gonzo asked recently if we ever textured it, since he wanted to explore using it for a game project. And...no. No we have not.
Until now! This model makes a great subject to explore Blender 2.8's texturing tools, how they differ from 2.7x, and how they integrate with Eevee. It will be fun. Don't miss it.
NOTE: You can download the finished textured plane with the cloud icon to the right of the title.
No, I mean having Blender open and explaining how to do things
I usually try to get to "you know, Pixar? It's that kind of thing" as quick as possible. They're typically really interested after that or not so much
trying to tell my family what I do is tough, I get the "deer in the headlights" look a lot
I want to draw on that cylinder, but it would be easier if it was flat, so I cut out the pieces and make it flat.
I mostly explain it in the context of video game models and that seems to get the message across.
I try to draw upon traditional art to make comparisons.
Yeah a bit, but fortunately most of my friends and family understand computers to some extent.
Also have to toggle a setting for Displacement. It goes with Bump by default, which really flummoxed me in the Ocean shader until I stumbled across an answer.
Kudos to Kent and all the other teachers
Man it is hard
