Welcome to Draw!
Let's cover the anatomy of a grease pencil object; the modes, and the tools at our disposal. Each short lesson will cover everything you need to know about a specific area.
Materials are a big component, and the ways they can be created, modified, and worked with can be overwhelming. In the next few lessons, I hope to take you through the basics, and give you a good understanding of Grease Pencil materials by showing you how to create some of your own!
In this chapter, we will exploreGrease Pencil's brushes: how to access them, how to modify them, and how to make our own!
This chapter will cover Grease Pencil's Modifiers and Effects properties. What the differences between the two are, and how to best use them.
Grease Pencil offers drawing tools, but it is important to remember we are still working in 3D space
Grease Pencil offers several tools to assist with animation. It is important to know the basics before diving head-long into your epic 26 episode animated Netflix series
Let's put it all together and create an illustration from the bottom up. We will use assets we created along the way, and even animate some objects to add some extra dazzle.
This course is super packed with information while still being super concise. It gives a thorough introduction to the grease pencil features and tools, and also a great look into the illustration process/workflow.
If you still find something is not entirely clear to you, Paul is incredibly responsive in the forum below the lessons, and clearly not only knows the subject to a deep level, but cares that all students truly understand the concepts. Some of the answers to my questions where as detailed as having a whole new video!
I'm finishing this course excited to start practicing my drawing skills more regularly, and very excited to add the 3D flare to it with Grease Pencil. Such a cool tool! Looking forward to getting motion involved in my illustration. Will take the comics course for more insight on that.
ps. I know all CGC staff always recommends that you take the course on the version it was recorded in, but I always take them with the latest version anyways, and research/ask about the differences. At the time I took this course the new version of GP (4.3 and above) was way too buggy and that did not work out (a first), so I do recommend installing 4.2 LTS for it.
This course was exactly what I needed! Iβm grateful for the hard work put into it. Through this course, Iβve gained essential Grease Pencil skills and got exactly what I expected. The instructor's professionalism and responsiveness make this course a must for beginner 2D animators and illustrators. Thank you for this valuable experience!
I learned so much. I'll have to watch multiple times to get all the knowledge in this course. Thanks for your hard work.
Thanks for the review, Peter! This is encouraging and excellent feedback! I'm keeping an eye on issues with the current version and I am happy to report that some issues will be addressed and corrected in the first bug fix release.
