The 4.0 Basics course was a great and effective introduction to Blender as someone with zero prior experience, and even after having done that course, Press Start and Mesh Modeling Fundamentals before coming to this one just for the sake of drilling the basics in further, I have to say the 4.5 Basics was immensely worth my time, as it actually built further on the bones of the 4.0 Basics and delved into even more detail and little side-things than the 4.0 Basics did.

Both Jonathan in 4.0 and Paul here are amazing at actually explaining what's going on, why and precisely how to follow their footsteps, rather than just narrating their work-flow and expecting you to keep up like some non-CGCookie YouTube tutorials I've tried in the past. Still a bit intimidated about mesh modeling and sculpting, but if Jonathan and Paul's teaching style is the site-wide standard, I have confidence I'll get over the hump eventually.

Honestly. I have been trying to get into 3D in general for maybe over a decade or so. I've tried countless blender tutorials on Youtube over the years and none of them have ever been so thoroughly informative and inspiring for a beginner as this one.

Most other tutorials tend to be akin to just a series of instructions on how to create something specific, (a donut, perhaps?) with the hopes that you can take that and apply it to anything else you'd like to create. Maybe some people can learn that way effectively, but I've always had a hard time with it. This course actually teaches you the fundamentals of not just how the program works, but why. It gave me the tools to actually understand Blender on a deeper level without getting too into the weeds, while giving me some inspiration on what I can do with that new level of knowledge.

I've now watched both this latest version of the course by Paul Caggegi and the previous Blender Basics from Jonathan Lampel and they are both wonderful instructors. I love the playful energy sprinkled throughout the lessons. It really makes me feel inspired to go out and "get myself into trouble" with the program and just make stuff for the sake of it.

As soon as I've had my fun really hammering home what I've learned here with the program and I can set aside the funds, I'll absolutely be back for a subscription to dive even deeper into learning. I've certainly learned enough already to get started with some smaller ideas I want to tackle!

I’ve been using Blender for 4 years, and I was probably too quick in my learning. I bought the Best of Blender Education bundle at SuperHive, which introduced me to CGCookie. And here I am! I think I’ll be staying for a long time. Thank you very much...

Thank you! This means a lot to us. Keep in mind that our video host can generate French subtitles if you need them. They have to be enabled manually per-video but we'll be happy to generate them for you. Simply leave a comment below any course saying "Can you generate French subtitles for me?"

Merci ! »
