Greeting, 3d-world stranger. In this humble place I'll share some of my works, thoughts, hopes and achievements.
Feel free to share your thoughts as well. I really like to read some valuable feedback and critical comments.
Thanks, beefkeef
Yes, in a way. I went for that usual Cloth + Collision routine but since I wanted that tunic to be shaped in a specific way I had to find a better solution for it. So I combined two cloths eventually. One of them was shrink-wrapped and manually tweaked and another one was simulated. After that I fixed some lines and folds.
And I like these nails too) And her pitch black eyes.
Actually, I am thinking about her brows and eyelashes right now. While modeling her big savage whip.
It takes longer than I expected (as usual :)) But I am loving it! Damn, is there anything better than creating a thing?
Hopefully, she wouldn't turn out too morbid and cruel.
But she is a demon after all and a nasty one.
Really like these horns:
Probably I'll add some blueish tint to these horns. I switched color scheme from main red to main blue since blue means more mystery in my book)
And that baby looks so wow and so mysterious.
UPD: Something like that:
UPD 2: And it is almost done:
Thanks, beefkeefย
Yes, these horns simply stole the show. Probably, I should have gone for that face a bit more. But I'll leave it for HUMAN course I guess. I've captured the mood and I'm quite happy about it. Although some pretty obvious mistakes were made and -- again -- I rushed it a bit. Gonna do something pretty and simple. And maybe you -- or anybody -- would be able to help me with that?
Friends. what model do you want to see next?
A beating human heart with red and blue flowers coming out of its veins.
Mermaid.
Retro car in modern design.
Another whale (blue whale this time).
Candles and a match (I've been picturing that idea for ages tbh).
God of war (not related to Kratos).
Astronaut / Alien (or extraterrestrial appropriation as I call it)ย
Ok, here is the next one:
I need a good set of whales for my reliefs so that model will come in handy.
And probably I should not add so many scratches and wounds this time)
Nice! Good to see you're keeping the momentum and diving straight into another project Michael!ย
Is this the blue whale that you mentioned in the previous post?
Yes, beefkeef
Actually I have a full set of them: humpback is done (although I'd like to give it another textures set). Blue whale + sperm whale + orca + white shark. And a few special ones like Megalodon or Melville's Leviathan.
And I'd like to dive into anatomy too) starting with the beating heart.
Plus archetypes I mentioned before)
Well, I really love art / 3d world and there is so much to learn!
Step 1: Sculpting.
For some reason that blue whale is way harder to sculpt although it looks way simpler than humpback one.
Finally, ย its done.
๐๐๐
What's making it harder to sculpt this time Michael? Is it the length perhaps?ย
It looks great so far!
Thanks, beefkeef
I think the reason is its simplicity. That humpback whale has so many bumps, scars, marks on it:
It is really easy to make something interesting out of it. Its a good material to work with in a visual sense.
Now compare it to the blue whale:
I guess that's the problem.
I don't want to drift too far away from the nature and original look of that whale but that form feels a bit boring / blunt so far.
Well, except for the eye. Eye looks fine.
Yeah, sometimes simpler is not always easier. I've got a feeling that when you come to the texturing stage the model will come to life more, and look more appealing. There's some interesting colour variations and patterns on the skin that you could incorporate perhaps.
Step 3: Texturing. Layer after layer. I'm loving that stage so much!
Btw: this is how Blenders helps me in sculpting.
Such a great tool!
Posing:
And going down for real:
More progress on that blue whale (coming from 3D to real world):
It is funny but it does loo ugly in the beginning:
Cutting all these loose parts off. Its really dusty:
All day long:
I'll need twice as much for that one:
It;s getting there)
Cool! It's really nice to see some of your work in progress Michael! ๐
I hope you will share some more pictures too - painting is next ?
Thanks, beefkeef
No, painting is ways away) It needs more polishing and I'll add more details after that. Eyes, scars, bumps and wounds, all these crevices around fins etc. Then the coloring will begin - the airbrush is still on the way thought.
I will show the whole process of turning a 3d model into a real object then.
What lies ahead: completion of the cast + I need to prepare a board for it. Painting comes next. Then I'll pour resin over it and add different pigments (I'm still thinking what colors to take and what'd be the best way to designate the whale - foam or waves). And varnishing.
It's almost done -- such a long journey!
I'm trying to produce 1 whale per week, that's my goal, but 2 whales per month has been a solid pace so far. I simply can not produce them faster than this. But its all good)
1. Base form: it is not polished yet.
2. Base layer. Usually it takes 3 or 4 layers to go deep enough under its skin.
3. Some details: bumps, scars, tiny little marks. Usual thing for whales. Although blue ones are way smoother than the others.
4. Final deep dark blue layer:
5: Some fine details:
6. And golden sparks too! Really love them. There is so much fun to find a way to put these colors on that skin. I use brushes, clothes, sponges, fingertips, toothpicks. Tools are everywhere!ย
7. Gonna pour some resin over that whale:
8. And pouring it over! There are 2 layers of resin now. And I'll have to wait for awhile and then add another 2 layers with some foam and white threads.
Thanks a million, jammingammon
The path to these boards was quite long. Firstly I went through watercolors, oil, wood and only then discovered plaster and resin and fell in love with them)
