BC1-1808 Homework, Andres

Collaborations

I'm sorry guys but I won't be able to have the pilder ready before the homework deadline, when I began the project I knew it was a challenge and this could be a possible end, I'm still stuck with the middle part, still need to figure out how to build it. I will keep working on it next week and have it ready before the last class of the course.

That being said, here is the homework submission for this week, it is an headphones, nothing interesting. It has a couple of details that must be fixed but I don't have time to do it.

As for the pilder, I will start working as soon as I finish the next class homework.

aaaltuvem Aww.. but hey, now you got a kick ass awesome project for the last week! Good to take the time to make it really nice. Taking a couple of days doing something else can work wonders, when you come back to it with fresh eyes you see things you didn't saw before.

Your headphones look good! Nice job 😊

  • Andres Altuve(aaltuvem) replied

ssmurfmier1985 Thanks Miranda! Yeah, I really want it to be done but there are still a lot things I don't know.. I will finish it before the last class!

    Thanks again!

aaaltuvem Simple and cool for sure. :)

PS: I notice that the arc part of your phones probably has inverted normals.

  • Jake Korosi(jakeblended) replied

aaaltuvem I have headphones very similar to those.  Looks like an excellent job to me.  :)

Don't feel bad about not being able to finish the pilder.  If you only need a couple more days, I think Kent will still accept it as long as you give him a heads-up.

  • Andres Altuve(aaltuvem) replied

nekronavt Hi Pavel, thanks! How can you tell the model got inverted normals?

    Thanks again!

  • Andres Altuve(aaltuvem) replied

jakeblended Hi Jake, I'm finishing the pilder! I did the headphones because I'm taking the class really serious and didn't want to miss a homework..

    Thanks!

This is the same cube but as you can see the right one is darker. That's because its normals are flipped..

To see in which direction the normals are showing you can press that little face button in edit mode under Mesh Display.

To recalculate the normals select everything and press ctrl+N. You can also find that option in the T-toolbar under Shading/ UVs (in 2.79). Hope this helps. Btw very cool headphones! Good job! :)

  • Andres Altuve(aaltuvem) replied

bbsdwerbeagentur Julian THANK YOU SO MUCH!! While making the pilder I got a lot of parts with the blueish color, and didn't know the reason.. Now I know! Thanks for taking the time to explain me!

  • Julian B(bsdwerbeagentur) replied

aaaltuvem You're welcome, glad I could help. :)

  • silentheart00 replied

Well, hey, you tried something challenging, and realized you couldn't do it in the time limit, but now it's the perfect project for next week!  Headphones look good, too.

  • Andres Altuve(aaltuvem) replied

@silentheart00  yeah I will keep working in it, I've been watching the modeling bootcamp and so far I got new knowledge that will help me to finish the pilder and on top of that Julian pointed out the normals issue.

  • silentheart00 replied

aaaltuvem Awesome!  Put that new knowledge to use!

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

aaaltuvem I'm personally really looking forward to you finishing your initial project but I still think this looks good!

  • Andres Altuve(aaltuvem) replied

thecabbagedetective  Thanks Aaron, I will finish it!

  • smurfmier1985 replied

aaaltuvem Good idea to watch that course to up your knowledge! you're improving fast you'll get there, looks awesome so far. Keep up the good work! 😄👍🏻

  • Kent Trammell replied

aaaltuvem Aww I was a skosh disappointed to see headphones instead of a finished pilder...but let's be honest, the headphones look pretty great on their own! Certainly deserving of an A 👍

You could finish the pilder for week 4 homework. I'm not the only one who wants to see that thing finished in full glory 🤩
  • Andres Altuve(aaltuvem) replied

@theluthier  Hi Kent, I was disappointed too but I didn't have the time to work on the pilder, but you can be 100% sure that we will see the pilder before the class is over!

  • Andres Altuve(aaltuvem) replied

Back to the Pilder :D, after watching more videos of the modeling bootcamp course I was able to identify a couple of errors I made, the biggest one was that the model of the pilder was high poly. By working with less polygons I have more control on how  the model flows and was able to build the middle part of the body. While being stuck in one part I built the engine.

Now I can say I'm loving how is coming together. My plan for today after I finish work is to see more videos learn few tricks and keep building.

aaaltuvem Good work Andres! You're learning fast doing that course 😬
