My homework thread for the  August 2018 Class

Week 1

Week 2 Submission

Because my head and eyes hurt, and I can't figure out how to save the bloody UV unwrap map, here's my submission.

I was in a dark place the beginning of last week, listening to depressing music, and this piece was on my list.  Every single lyric in that piece resonates with me so very deeply.  I didn't have the happiest or smoothest upbringing. but music and art have always been my refuge; it has always made me pull through despite what I'm feeling or thinking.  My go-to outlet has always been music and art, so with those feelings of last week I put in them front of you now despite some bumps with 2.8.  There are things I still want to add, things to tweak, but I can't work with a headache and eye strain right now.

Sorry if some details get lost; still figuring out the lighting situation in Eevee.

Week 3 Submission

I did this a while ago, and I think the decimate modifier left some funky geometry.  Oh well.

Melvin sculpt

Did the primitives.  The hardest is probably the cone.

Extra Credit

No hair, but some piercings.  Not loving the ears, but I guess I should do some ear studies, then.  Not loving the eye work either, but practice will help.

csehz Thanks.  Big plans.  Let's see if I can get them done before the stream, but if not, no biggie.

    Week 4 WIP 10

Today has not been in my favor.  Going to simulate the lower half of the dress, add some shoes, jewelry, strap, all the fun bits hopefully before the stream.

Looking great! One tip I remember Kent talking about in the Character modeling course earlier this year is doing the hands slightly curved gives it a more relaxed feel and actually helps to make it easier to solve the rigging when you get to that stage (if you choose to do so).

silentheart00 I think "Big Plans" was a common theme with all of our projects this week. :-) Keep up the good work!

silentheart00 you progressed quite a bit the last couple of days! Looking good so far, I like it 😄

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

silentheart00 That's a tall order there, wish you the best of luck in finishing it before the stream!

  • silentheart00 replied

gradyp Yeah, realized that after I did them straight.  Oh well.

ullreym ssmurfmier1985 thecabbagedetective Thanks!  There were so many family events, friends visiting, etc this weekend it's a wonder I even got this far.

silentheart00 Love all the WIP updates, silent. On your latest image, I was wondering about the breast area. Is her top supposed to be armor or fabric? If it's armor, what you have works fine. If it's fabric, it's not reading that way. If you're going for fabric, I'd recommend this video.

  • silentheart00 replied

The dark blue is fabric and the light purple is armor @theluthier

  • Kent Trammell replied

silentheart00 Ah ok, that looks good then. Despite the WIP state, you've clearly done a LOT of good work this week, Silent. You've easily earned an A in my book. I'd love to see you continue the character through to completion! Post that mug to the gallery if you do 👊

Also thanks so much for a top-notch VA all month long. A lot of people benefited from your feedback and answers. Your help and time is much appreciated 🙇🏻‍♂️

  • silentheart00 replied

@theluthier Thanks very much, Kent.  I will continue this because my SO and I have decided to apply for the 2019 school year for grad school, so I'm going to work extra hard these next few months pulling a portfolio together.  That and a few loose ends from previous classes to wrap up for my portfolio, too.
