Suggestions for new courses

Wouldn't it be an idea to open a pinned thread in which users could suggest things/ topics they would like to learn more about? There propably would be a huge variety of ideas and a course takes some time but it might be helpful for instructors to see if a large amount of users want to learn more about a specific topic. I for example would love to learn more about creating game assets (similar to the weapon course) or how to build an atual scene full of assets. Also a course on how to create an interior visualization and use textures and lighting to make it look as photorealistic as possible (similar to the architectual visualization course) would be awesome.

Just an idea on how the website could be improved.

I have an idea for a collaboration. that would include modeling, illustration, animation, story telling  etc. If instructors are interested let me know.  and I’ll shoot you a message explaining further.

I would LOVE to have an updated course on character creation. More so how to create skin, the shaders for it etc.

A course on how to sell 3D models online.  There's people out there who know how to use Blender, but aren't making many sales with their 3D models. A course that would help with that.

Hey guys, hope all is well,

I want to chime in and say I'm hoping you could come up with a definitive course on Cycles skin shading. The whole subject seems to be wrapped up in arcane witchcraft or something.

Despite all the tutorials and forum posts, I can rarely get consistent results with skin.

I even bought the Cycles Skin Shader Double Pack off BlenderMarket, but despite following instructions I don't always get the expected results. Once, I got something really good but as soon as you switch out a map or two, or change the lighting you lose the whole look.

I'd like to see a course that takes some of the mystery out of this stuff. Maybe even something that uses the texturing.xyz material.

    Request!

I really want to dive deep into the Mesh Modeling Bootcamp! However as a beginner following along with blender 2.8 + is difficult due to the course being made for blender 2.7! Can we get this one updated or something similar! More Modeling Courses for beginners!!!

  • mamasaur replied

Please update the modeling bootcamp course! I really want to try that one!!

  • Jonathan Lampel replied

That's the plan! I'm on it :) In the meantime, if you go through the bootcamp and get stuck because of the version difference, ask a question on that lesson and I'll reply as soon as I can.

We need a course on procedural node stuff........Im saying like all the math node stuff and vector math...How to make shapes with math, displacement to make cool objects....It's something I want to learn but dont know where to start. Thanks

I would say that once you go through most of the blender 2.8 content you should be able to understand the lingo when watching 2.79 videos. That is what I am doing. But as Jonathon said. It is always okay to ask questions and @ mention the person to get their attention.

  • Karen Trevino(ketre) replied

I agree with blanchsb  on this,  Even when some things in the interface have changed, the answer is a question away. I try to find out on my own first...(this helps me learn and remember). There are some in this place student and teacher who know the answer.

You'll probably like  to hear that I'm currently working on a mega course about creating photo-realistic human portraits where human skin is going to be a crucial part. That's to say it's in the works! :)

A course on Sci-Fi stylization and break down on what you should be looking for when making stylized environments.

I've been looking everywhere for a good tutorial that breaks down on exactly what it means to stylize a form of futuristic fantasy.

Something along the lines of Overwatch in artstyle perhaps?

  • dmar1223 replied

There's a course on texture coordinates and the basics of vector math somewhere. That may help! https://cgcookie.com/course/working-with-custom-transform-nodes-in-cycles

tt3ch not a lot of tutorials out there, it's very specialized and not very practical...

This is a Subdivided Cube I made after this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDtVsS_zR_8 tutorial:

    Here's the node setup:

He explains it very well and he also made other procedural tutorials, so check him out!

A course about making outdoor environments would be epic!

It would be terrific to see a course on making games in Unreal Engine with Blueprints.

    Suggestion:
Can there be a course for troubleshooting unique Character Topology?

    i.e. - Stylized fantasy characters/creatures

(currently working on several fantasy characters and thought this might help me and others struggling with character modelsthat are away from norms)

I'd like to see the character walk cycle animation walk-through (forgive the pun) redone with the new Rigify system. It's got  stretchy knees, so it should be a lot easier to avoid (or at least fix) knee-pop issues.

But, please, Wayne, could you not talk about how hard animation is this time? If you could just string us along, I'd be ever so grateful. I need all the encouragement I can get.
