Doubling caused by the bump texture?

So I keep having to connect and disconnect the color ramp from the image textures because they're causing some doubling of the texture. I think it's because of the bump node thickening the image texture but I don't really notice it on the video. have I just done something wrong with it.

    Hi Sam,

You can simply disonnect the Bump Node, I can't remember what that's for.

But what's possible/likel;y , is that you have a too high Distance in your Bump Node.

I agree with Martin, that looks like the artefacts when the bump values are too high and the image gets like you put a high pass on it. Remember the bump is just fakery, if you push it too hard it'll break the illusion.

Thanks, The bump distance is actually on .005 though is that too high?

Looking at my settings I think its the filter slider being at 0.005 which is causing it. I'm working in 4.5lts so filter wasn't on there when this course was recorded I think

    HI Sam,

Yes, a Filter Width of 0.005 is rediculously low. The dafault is 0.1 and that is a reasonable default. To get the same Bump as in older Blender Versions, you should have it at 1.0.

You might still need to lower your Distance, but first change the Filter Width to something sensibel.
