CORE | Fundamentals of Materials and Shading Review by dbchest

I don't know how to review this course, to be honest...maybe it would be better to keep my thoughts close, but I'll offer them anyway, because this is the review section, and this was my experience... I struggled with the instructor's accent for almost all of chapters 2 and 3, which made it very difficult for me to retain the course material, and I didn't know subtitles were available until checking just before posting this, so I wasn't accusing the platform for not offering them; as it turns out, you do, so that's on me and I'll definitely use them for the Texturing course. Putting that aside...the instructor may very well be a subject matter expert, but I don't get the impression of ownership that I get with the other instructors, like Paul, Kent, and John, for example; like these instructors prepare their scripts but aren't afraid to deviate from them when recording. I got the impression the instructor for this course had a script and that's all we got; no more, no less, verbatim. At the end of the day, I felt competent when approaching the exercise, but I really struggled to understand the information as it was presented.

Thanks for the feedback Derek. It's cool to leave honest reviews. It's like Wayne says, you just have to keep in mind it comes from a place of love, not hurt. Ewa is an amazing artist, she's just new to teaching and she's polishing those skills super fast. Kent, JL, JW, Wayne, Paul, those guys also started slow and had to learn to find their footing, and now we can enjoy their awesome courses, but they needed the opportunity to get better first. So Ewa's next courses are going to be more awesome as she levels up and beat boss battles and gets new items. Her next one is shaping up real great already. Stay tuned.

This course is the first one, where I finished and don´t have the feeling of knowing more. No, I´m totally confused and afraid of going forward with the next course.

Personally I think the texturing course is better. After reading your review, I think you're right about the confidence thing and that's probably why the texturing one is better to me.

There's always the ones before the CORE that you can watch as well. The exact same topics are covered:
