Hi all,
I have a model that was delivered as a native .blend file. When I open that file, I have real issues with some of the geometry and materials when shadows are turned on in Eevee and in general in Cycles.
But if I append that same model (Append>blend file>Objects) into a new .blend file, everything works as expected. (Yay!)
I use the same render settings for both methods, and as far as I can tell the materials are the same in both cases.
I'd like to find out what the difference may be, please. Thanks!
Sounds like there's some settings turned on in the original file that are not enabled in a brand new blend file where you append them. When you work on a file and start messing around with settings, the blend file will carry all those settings to wherever, and when you open a brand new one, all that messing around is not there, since it's a new file. We would have to explore the file and see what setting is causing that look. But if it's working as expected on a new file then it's all ok. If you want us to take a look at the file you can upload it.
Thank you for the offer, but like you said, the append operation got it working correctly so I'm good. I just wondered what might be behind the different results between the two methods of getting the model into a scene. Cheers!
