Weight Painting Question

Hi There, I'm on Chapter 2, Video 8: Armature Modifier - The Long Way. Timestamp 10:22. I'm unable to move the armature in Weight Painting Mode like Wayne is doing. Also, I'm unable to automatically select the Vertex Groups by hovering over the bone in Weight Painting mode. I have to manually select the Vertex Group. Any ideas? Thanks, -Scott

Ah, I see that Wayne is pressing the "R" key to rotate that bone. Still can't automatically select the Vertex Group.

    Thanks,

    Hi Scott,

Stupid question: are you using Blender 4.2?

I just found the answer to my question regarding selecting Vertex Groups and Bones in Weight Painting mode. It was explained in Chapter 3, Lesson 7. I had to select the armature then the mesh.

Hmm, I still don't get how he is able to switch selection from the Ear.L to the Head and to Ear.R at 10.58 while having the blur tool active? If I change tool to one of the selection tools it works. Maybe it is changed in Blender 4.2.2?

    Two things:

    1. Assuming you are using default left click select, Are you using alt+left mouse click to select the bones while in weight paint mode?

    2. Did you select armature, then shift select the mesh before you entered into weight paint mode?

Aaah, thank you!! I didn't hold down Alt, that was the problem!
(The instructor holding down the Alt key wasn't showing in the video, even though it seem's like he has screen keys enabled).

That's because he uses right click select instead of Left click select. He talks about this in chapter 1 user preferences video.

Thank you! I forgot that. Maybe I need to rewatch chapter 1.
I'm using left click select, because I can't get used to right click. I adopted his preferences other than that.

Yeah I follow his setup except I use left click select and instead of tab pie I use pie on drag. Blender is very configurable. I prefer drag because it gives you the best of both worlds. Pressing tab to quickly enter in and out of edit mode and hold tab and drag mouse cursor for pie menu to show up. Then you only have to drag until the option you want is highlighted then let go of tab and it makes the select.
