Carramone's Polybook

Polybooks

This is the start of my 3D journey, enrolled in the CORE course. Just about to start with the final challenge for the modeling course.

My SciFi boxes. I made two different versions. Looking forward to learning how to add stickers and wear and tear

Here is my render of the final modeling challenge. I had a lot of fun creating this. So many thing to create, but I had to draw the line somewhere. It's getting time to delve into the next course - sculpting.

I made a version with some shaders as well. Looking forward to return to the scene after I have completed the Lighting and Materials and shading course .

carramone Nailed it! Your kitchen looks awesome!! Your materials and shading look awesome!! It's a ton of fun to come back to your older projects and update them with the new things you learn. Keep it up!

Great sculpting course, I have never sculpted anything even remotely resembling ... anything before :p. But this shark, they do look like a reason to stay out of the water :D

I deviated from the original, because wanted to test out sculpting a little bit more on my own. Adding some extra detail, and moving the gills towards the belly.

I ran into problem using dynotopo., so my shark was made using only the remesh functionality. The mesh is probably way more dense that it needs to be because of this. I will need to try out dynotopo again, on a simpler mesh, to figure out what is it I'm doing wrong.

Turned out great. For the next one, try a different shark to get a different level challenge.ย

Thanks Omar, that is a great idea.

Took a lot less time to make this one. I'll probably make the other sharks as well. It's truly good practice. But I think I'll revisit these after I've taken the shader course.

    Fantastic!

And only Remesh? I am impressed!

Thanks Martin. Yes, only remesh, so the mesh is very dense. I can't get dynotopo to work. Everything gets messed up, but I'll rewatch the video and see what settings I'm getting wrong before I make my third shark :)

Dynamic topology takes a little bit to get used to, so you're good. At the beginning we tend to either destroy our sculpt by having the resolution set too high or get way too compact detail by having the resolution too low. High number means less resolution and lower number means more. But yes, go back to the lesson and after you give it another watch, now having the advantage of hindsight, you'll understand things so much more.ย

Just taken the lighting course, and been experimenting with different lighting setups for the room. It'll be fun to test some of these lighting styles on the sharks. But first I'll learn how to give them an appealing material, so that the light have something interesting to interact with.

Started the materials course, and was given an assignment, but I couldn't find a file containing the objects to create materials for. So I created some similar objects and made materials for them. This time I was able to use dynotopo for the wax of the candle.

    OBJECTS2.png

And just when I was done with my scene... I found the file containing the assignment objects... So well, I used my materials on that scene as well, and made a few new ones for the glasses.

IN my own scene, I used things I learnt in the lighting course, to make things more interesting. In the real scene, I used the world light that was already in the scene. I just enabled shadow caustics.

Currently on the textures course, have textured the binoculars. Unfortunately it is neigh impossible for me to use the smooth functionality. Blender lagged like crazy, so I was more or less forced to accept at lot more hard transitions than I would've liked.ย

    Binoculars.png

I also baked the textures, but something feels off. I have lost all the metallic details and the wood material is much more dull. I will need to go through the process again and se what it is I'm doing wrong.ย inoculars._baked.png

  • Omar Domenech replied

Yeah baking is super tricky, but the more you fall into the gotchas, the easier it gets. Super great results and keep up the productivity ๐Ÿค˜

I just finished the challenge at the end of the Texturing course. I will to go through a few of the chapters again, so much to learn, not everything sticks. But I'll let it rest for a few days. Robots_on_jello.png
