In Blender 2.75, are the color mix numbers displayed different (HSV) in the node editor as the colors are very different to your version

I am not 100% on this, but I think you only go to HSV to turn down the saturation. Make sure to go back to RGB to change the color.

In the video, Kent was turning down the Value property of HSV but using the same values failed to have the same effect.
