Are you new to CG Cookie? Say hi to your new Blender tribe! 🍪

Wes Burke

Welcome, fellow cosmic traveler in search of delicious crumbs of Blender wisdom.

You've come to the right place. So let's get to know each other!

I'll go first: my name is Wes and I founded CG Cookie over 10 years ago...and then immediately forgot why I called it that.  😅Besides 3d art, I'm obsessed with motorcycles, coffee, and creating projects that bring people together. You can learn more about me at http://wesburke.com

You see, I just love the buzz of creative energy that's generated by us humans making stuff...whether that's decaf coffee, bike engines, or computer graphics.

When I'm not on my Peloton or tweaking my bike in the garage, I'm wrestling hanging out with my 4 kids (yes, four!) or putting out fires - mostly digital ones.

And who are you?

So now I'm curious - what's your name and why are you here?

Say hi and share your story with us, and don't worry - we only bite cookies around here.

Hello everyone! My name is Andy. I am a videographer and photographer living in Missouri. I have always been an artist and I started drawing at a very young age. I eventually transitioned more into photo and then video as my creative outlet at the age of 14, and that has been my focus ever since. But as I got older, I started missing that feeling of being able to draw something up from my imagination whenever and wherever I wanted to. There's only so much you can do on a budget in the photo and video industry. Just the idea of how I would even start making these fantasy worlds in my head through photos was challenging! So, I needed to find a new outlet that would make this easier for me. But I knew learning to draw good again would take ages...So I thought, 'what could I do to start bringing my ideas to life now?' So, after some research, I decided to try to actually learn blender. As it seemed like the most flexible option and didn't require me to buy any art supplies. So, after years (I never could finish a tutorial) of not attempting 3d art because I thought it was too hard, I finally finished the donut tutorial! I learned a ton and started making my own projects mostly every day since then. Now I am near 2 months into this journey and having a blast. I wanted to expand my knowledge so I could work in a studio one day. My dream is to do VFX and environmental work so I could fuse that with my love for photo and video.   I joined CGCookie to be able to do just that! So excited to join this wonderful community.

I've already introduced myself over on Discord, but the welcome message suggested introducing myself here, too, so I will.

I've been using Blender for years, and I've been an unpaid member here for a while, but I just became a paid member to participate in Collab2022. My interests in Blender tend to focus toward human animation, clothing and jewelry design, architecture, and lighting/rendering. I've also used Blender a fair bit for modeling for 3D printing. (My printer is kind of small, so even if I download somebody else's model for printing, I often end up using Blender to chop it into pieces to fit my printer, but I also often wind up customizing it to some degree.)

I learned a lot from the public YouTube content, and I've already gotten a couple of really useful tips from the Discord chat. Now that I've paid, I'm looking forward to the great course content and to sharing the things I've learned in the time I've been using Blender.

    Welcome to the cookie bbluewizard5119,

I thought I had seen you somewhere before, on the CGC Discord.

I am sure you will find the course content here at CGCookie well worth it, we also have the added bonus of the awesome community.
Feel free to ask questions whenever they arise, but also jump in and answer questions if you wish.
Everyone supporting each other in our community is something special, as you may have already experienced on Discord.

    Amazing courses, awesome community,
And Collab2022 coming up your in for a real treat, I can testify that the Collabs are a excellent experience, you will not be disappointed.

    Hi Adrian,

(For some reason, I don't seem to be able to @-mention you.) I've only been on the Discord server a couple of days. Kent sent me the invitation with the Collab2022 info. I didn't even know there was a Discord server before that, or I would have been there already. Even though I'm new, I'm already asking questions there, getting good answers, and answering questions where I know (or think I know ;-) ) the answer.

Hello everyone, name is Dave. I'm going to date myself a bit. I started doing 3D way back in the mid to late 80s with a program called Videoscape 3D by Allen Hastings, which became Lightwave 3D with the NewTek video Toaster. Later it was released stand alone on Windows and became very popular for a while. I'm now an exec at NewTek but Lightwave has, mostly, faded into history. I'm now getting back into 3D again and have been enjoying learning Blender. I've watched tons of Youtube videos but decided it was time to invest in some paid content and take it even more seriously.

    Hi Dave!

Welcome to CG Cookie, you've had quite a journey in 3D and video production, it's great to have you here at the Cookie.

The 80's was an exciting time in the 3d world for those of us who remember them. How great it would have been to of had a CG Cookie back then or even YouTube.

Along with the great courses, by the best tutors, the CG Cookie community is awesome. You will find young and old(er), beginners to advanced users of Blender, who are all super helpful.

Reminiscing, a few friends, myself and a monthly computer magazine was about it for a 3D community back then, but it was so cool.

Hey Hey my name is Martin Sweers and I work as a freelance photographer and artist in the fashion and beauty industry. After a decade doing this and being good at my job I needed something extra so I started to produce short films around luxury items like parfums. But allot of my ideas where involved with concepts that you just cant film in reality.

So I started with what i always believed to be a hard no that thing was CGI. Im now doing it for 8 months in between jobs and im just addicted.

So here are the two bigger things I finished in CG when it comes to short films.

I feel like I sometimes try to run before i can walk and am having difficulty modeling stuff so i did the gameboy course which already helped.
But it feels like im always short on knowledge to achieve things. I love blender and it’s community of helpfull people sharing and caring is very normal in this scene.
My website if you are curious is.

    Hey Everyone!!

My name is Timeka and Im a newbie from Washington,DC. I became interested in this world through hearing about Second Life and Opensim and been fascinated for some years but scared to try due to the challenge I felt it presented. What changed my mind was trying to take already made avatars(CG Trader, Turbosquid, etc), rig in Mixamo, edit here and bring them in BabylonJS to build games. I thought to myself "Instead of going through various channels why not just work within one space", so here I am!!

So far I'm liking the experience :)

Hi, name's Johnny. Been wanting to learn 3D art in order to make my own game assets for games like Gmod and Skyrim and what have you. Total hobbyist. I couldn't do it for a living, but every now and then? Sure. Looking forward to slamming through all the courses with keen focus.  There's not much to know about me, I'm the boring type, real blank canvas.

Hi I'm a computer science student and professional, but I've always loved drawing and painting. Somewhere along the line, I lost sight of that and because I work with computers, CG is one of those disciplines that has always captured my attention. I did a lot of reserach before joining and I'm actually feeling very happy that I found a place where I can grow my skills and a community to share my journey along with. I really hope to make and share some artwork, not just for enjoyment but to also create renders of beautiful products to sell.

    Hi everyone!

I'm new to CG Cookie and started getting into Blender a week ago. Since then I've done the Donut & Anvil tutorial, the basics from you and some individual tutorials on light and color. The last few days have been like a time travel where I couldn't stop thinking about 3D design. For a very long time, nothing has excited me like this and I couldn't help but register with you guys.

I hope to give my life a new flow with you guys and 3D Design and I am happy to be with you.

    Stay healthy!

Hah, I hope this is how it goes! I'm terrible at using forum-style places.

So hi, I'm Genesis, Puerto Rican, and I've dabbled creatively here and there with 2D animation, 3D animation and modeling in Maya, but then I found out animation wasn't for me. So, I tried Creative Writing, since I get stumped with visual arts -- also not for me. Got a bachelor's and certificate out of it respectively, though!

So, here I am, giving this one last try -- 3D modeling in a very fun program! I've learned a lot through the CG Cookie youtube channel (specifically the basics), but the little tips and tricks here and there are so fun and useful! I purchased the Press Start course through the Market, got inspired and motivated, decided to bite the bullet and subscribe! I'm eager to start this 3D journey anew from square one, and all in a very versatile program!

I haven't been this excited about learning something new in a while, so thanks, CGC for the opportunity to expand Blender knowledge in my noggin!

  • 'Irfan Rosdi(irfanrosdi) replied

    Hi I'm Irfan from Singapore!

I'm not exactly "new" to CG cookie or even Blender but it has always been this on-off shallow depth I've been swimming in for the past 10 years. I always felt there was this threshold I couldn't get past and I'd quit after a certain point each time. Always giving myself the excuse that I lack raw artistic talent to draw/sculpt or understand anatomy etc. Every time I'd try it again I always had to start from scratch, I've lost how many times I've gone through this cycle (never really making any tangible progress).

I have been working in the media industry freelancing in different aspects of it for years. Mostly specializing in post-production - editing, audio, motion graphics(not 3D) & occasional VFX. Making a good living off of it but I could never call myself an artist in any capacity.

I find myself envious and admiring amazing 3D digital art every day in various forms. That I've started seeing it as this incredibly magical creation I can't imagine ever doing. But I don't think I can live soundly for not trying again properly this time. And with your latest addition of the HUMAN course which I'm hoping to be my major goal to reach at the end of this year, I hope I won't quit prematurely this time by committing to CG cookie.
