“If anybody’s out there, you can come out.
And if you’re a monster or a ghost, you can stay where you are, and we won’t bother you.”
-Ash Ketchum
The Challenge: To celebrate national Pokemon day on Sunday 27th February,
the challenge is to model and texture a Pokemon character of your choice.
No animation is required, however you can if you have the time, and to challenge yourself further.
'Gotta catch 'em all!'
Rules:
Why a Challenge
A challenge rather than a contest because its for you to challenge yourselves and the knowledge you gained from a course to create a masterpiece of your own making.
A rules based challenge to maintain consistency and fairness, whilst also maintaining safety to prevent accidents.
A challenge to be the best you can be from the knowledge you have today, while striving to be even better tomorrow than you was yesterday.
Most importantly, a challenge to have some fun.
How we'll rate your Pokemon.
The CG Cookie crew, @wesburke , @theluthier , @jlampel and @waylow , will review and pick 4 favourite Pokemon.

@adrian2301 Hi Adrian, this is such an awesome challenge, thank you! I don't know much about Pokémon but anything that is character-related gets my blood pumping! Just a question if I may? Would it be against the rules if I chose to create a Funko Pop version of a Pokémon (only if it is recognizable) or should we only adhere to the original Anime style?
You’re not alone bc_griffin , before the last few weeks I knew next to nothing about Pokémon. A few google searches and I feel like an expert.
The criteria is to model a Pokémon character, how you present your model in terms of style, is up to you.
As long as it is recognisable as a Pokémon character.
I am pleased to have grabbed your attention with this challenge and look forward to seeing your results.
slenaerts Thank you Sébastien. Happy to be part of this challenge. Working on a Sonic & Knuckles project that's almost done however, I could not resist another character challenge. Nice to know that you're part of it too. I have a feeling that this challenge especially will attract a handful of fans of the franchise that will be rocking with some exceptional renders. Good luck on this wonderful challenge, Sébastien. I know your work is gonna be awesome!
I might join in this time depending on the complexity of my favorite character in Pokemon. I do know about this anime series and I had watched two seasons. I guess I'll be catching more Pokemon from now on.
I don't know anything about Pokemon, but this should be fun. They look cute :D
I'm not sure if I'm able to participate since I'm still relatively new to blender. But man, I remember Pokémon coming out when I was a kid and got swept up in the hype!
So far looking at all the entries are just unlocking a lot of my childhood memories of the series that I remember the movies I've watched and the games.
Now as I'm typing this, I know a few Pokémon I remember from the top of my head that have simple geometry or easy-ish to model.
Regardless, Loving looking at the wip entries so far and I look forward to see everyone's final result!
When this says to model a Pokemon character does it mean specifically a human character from Pokemon? or Pokemon specifically? or does it matter?
Any Pokémon character, wendy10698
I would suggest that most will model a Pokémon, but a human character such as Ash Ketchum is your choice.
Unfortunately not this time @adrian2301 - I'm slowly absorbing the Human course with any free time I get!
That is unfortunate,
I would love to have seen your skills modelling a Pokémon.
Good luck with your human.
I am not into that series but... I am thinking about Cookiemon actually.
Creating a Cookiemon would be nice. I just need to think its abilities through.
Hello! Are referring to Kling and Klang when you said simple Pokemon geometry? Very memorable design I say.
Can you believe there are now almost 900 different pokemons out there?
How are they going to rate each project? What are they looking for exactly? (proper proportions, clean mesh, etc. That kind of stuff? or something else?)
