Hey! I think a polybook is a great & inspiring idea, not just to monitor your own progress but to get inspired by other people's journey, too. Which is why I want to showcase my progress through the different CG-Cookie courses and hopefully in the future share progress pics on my own projects.
My version of the scifi crate. I was already somewhat familiar with the modelling basics, but still learned a few new things.
The low poly bedroom exercise was a fun one, I've always loved isometric low poly art and it was fun to have the room, lighting and camera already set so all I had to worry about was modelling. I used cloth simulation for the blanket, the pillows and the rug on the floor. I probably should've used cloth sim on the curtains too, they look a little jagged, but I'm very happy with my color choices.
I had A LOT of fun with this sculpting fundamentals course, I learned a ton of new things that make sculpting with blender so much easier. (Activating subdivide edges changed my life).
I tried doing the challenge of lighting a night time version of the forest scene from the lighting fundamentals course. I'm not super happy with it, I think the face could be more prominent. If I look at it from a few steps back, I can't really make out what this picture is supposed to show, which is always a bad sign. It also doesn't really read "night time" to me, more like very cloudy maybe? But posting it here anyway, we can only learn from our "mistakes". Doing this in cycle definitely brought my laptop to its knees
Started the Introduction to character modeling course. First time using the skin modifier, definitely a very interesting approach, was very helpful for the hands!
Nice! Looks super clean! The curtains look great, not too jagged for a low poly curtain!
separated and modelled the different clothing items. The topology isn't perfect, maybe it'll be good enough, but I can always go back and fix it. Definitely learning a TON just by trying to follow along with the course.
Here's the final render of the lil guy, definitely very challenging, especially the face. It's very difficult to make a style like this not look crazy. But I'm happy I managed to pull something together. It's missing the scarf from the tutorial plus the rigging/posing because the cloth simulator just didn't want to behave that day and I feel like I need to learn more about rigging first. Maybe some other time!
Excellent work!
I like the millennial look of your pilot.
A great combination of traditional and modern working well.
