Sci-fi Room Challenge WIP-A Space Bar

Contests and Challenges

Have no idea what this is going to look like, but I am thinking of curvy shapes...

Making a start with things I know will have to be there...

First a test design for a table:

    Got a coffeemaker:

(the operating 'buttons' will be done with texturing, I think...)

    and did some fixes:

    Let there be coffee:

This is looking really great, Spikey! Iโ€™m loving a lot of your design choices. The barstools, tho, look a little too far away from the bar for drunk patrons to comfortably lean over, so Iโ€™d add a little overhang on the barย to accommodate them.

  • spikeyxxx replied

    Thanks a lot acapier !

You're absolutely right about the stools, but their placement is not yet final and I will have to add a human rig or so in the scene to check the measurements and see that everything is working.

Also I will add a railing or so to the bar (it's not called a bar for nothing, right?) and also some support for the feet...maybe on the stools or a long one on the floor...Still a lot to be done before opening night ;)

Some glasses and the first few bottles:

And this is how it looks so far (still need more different bottles...):

and of course I couldn't resist adding a Klein Bottle (will probably not make it in the final render(s)...).

  • coyo (coyohti) replied

A Klein bottle! The drinkware favored by multi-dimensional beings!

    Looking fantastic! So much stuff!

  • spikeyxxx replied

No modeling today. experimented with lighting and made a first render to get an idea how it looks and how long it takes to render (this took almost 3 hours, but it's only 1080p):

Also made the touch buttons to operate the coffeemaker:

    Whoa! Beautifulย

good looking furniture in a good looking room

  • Todd Sanderson(acapier) replied

Iโ€™m suddenly in the mood for some blue milk. This is looking fantastic Spikey!

  • jammingammon replied

Looking really cool. The lights really bring it all together. I could definitely see some aliens hanging out in here. Nice work!

  • spikeyxxx replied

Thanks a lot euv , acapier and jammingammon !

I feel more confident about the lighting now ๐Ÿ˜€

  • adrian replied

Looking fantastic spikeyxxx , its really coming together nicely with the lighting.

Will there be any patrons in your scene?

Perhaps this is a place frequented by Kryten. ๐Ÿ˜‚

  • spikeyxxx replied

    Thanks @adrian2301ย

I probably won't have time to add any 'beings' in this scene, unfortunately (need at least a day for rendering...).

So what humans or aliens frequent this bar is left up to your imaginations ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • spikeyxxx replied

Made some light improvements. Also, the bar now has an actual bar (accidentally modeled it on the wrong side, but I decided to see how it looks when I simply rotate the whole bar and I like it even better this way, lucky accident ๐Ÿ˜…) and the stools have foot support (might need to adjust the height, but that is for the 'final tweaks day'...). Filled the first few some bottles to get a better idea of how it will look and rendered with less Samples (only 64, rendered in just under 40 minutes!) to see if I can get away with that.

    And this is the result:

Happy where this is going ๐Ÿ˜€

Tomorrow the final modeling (mostly bottles) and materials and friday is for the final tweaks and fixes and to start rendering (hopefully).

  • Tom (tomb2005) replied

    Very nice lighting design!ย

  • Vue Thao(euv) replied

Wow, that's all I can say with my jaw left there hanging pretty long. This is some futurama bar I like to go and drink.

  • spikeyxxx replied

Thanks euv ! I would love to welcome you as our guest ๐Ÿ™‚

Still some modeling left (but not a lot...).

Accomplished the main materials, but I will have to tweak the Shaders a lot.

It seems like I can't use the Denoising, at least not with only 64 Samples (have to test it with the Compositor Denoiser Node though), it completely destroys the SSS....

    Another test render:
