Second time trying to post this so apologies if this ends up double posting.
As others have done I'm going to use this a repository for my progress while going through all of the great turorials and learning flows on the site.
To start I've got a little shot of my first attempt at the shark sculpting exercise by Kent Trammell.
I'm really happy with the start seeing as I've never sculpted digitally or otherwise in my life, plus I feel the more I sculpt the more I get a FEEL for each tool and become better at it.
Feedback if you have any is much appreciated.
I don't know where my image went but I'll try again.
Also just a question I kept havin a problem where I accidentally created a sharp point at the ends everytime i used the smooth tool and no amount of inflatin/nudging/grabbing etc would stop it from reappearing. Any tips? Reference below.
Before smooth
After smooth
Image of my final sculpt I submitted. Definitely far from perfect but as a first go I am happy with it.
Now onto the animation fundamentals.
It can be difficult to focus on one element all the time when blender has so much to offer and you just want to do it all, but I really do think it's helping me in the long run.
Great result ponchismaaan ,
I know what you mean, you just want to jump in and create, but one step at a time will give you better results in the end, plus you get to have some fun on the way.
Keep it up your doing great 👍
My final shark put into a render as followed from @theluthier 's livestream. Not too bad despite the differences.
I did someting where the shar was slightly too blurred from the volumetrics than I would have liked but I couldnt fix it (yet).
I love the particle in front of the cheak that has split into a rainbow because of the lense distortion.
Some of my renders from @jlampel 's "Fundamentals of Digital Lighting in Blender".
The first few are some of the various day and night renders in the "Lighting a Bedroom with Cycles
This last one is my attempt at a dusk scene.I went with a dusk HDRi from Poly Haven that had a lot of red in it's sunlight andincreased the strength of it in the node slightly from my previous strength used in the night time renders. It gives a soft red glow on the wall.I also added the "hall" light in. I figured it's on because the owner of the room is getting ready for bed in the bathroom and had the hall/bathroom light on. It give the slightly brighter light on the bed with the vertical line of shadow as it heads the the wall.
Little practice from the Fundamentals of Blender Materials and Shading flow.
This is just after the basic shader section so not too crazy. I'm looking forward to geting further into it. I'd like to add scuff/wear to the stickers on the Rubik's Cube. The second is a brushed metal liquid measure.
I've also included an example image of something that alludes me just now that I'm hoping to figure out at the end of the flow.
Notice how the bottle reflects the light source twice. Once on the outside in the colour of the light itself and once after the light passes through the glass and colours the light green.
It's cool how just a small intro to this course gets you looking at objects and there materials with an analytical eye.
Wow. looks like you're making some really good headway on the courses here ponchismaaan ! Keep up the good work 👏👏
Looks great ponchismaaan! Very nice work.
I feel the more I sculpt the more I get a FEEL for each tool and become better at it.
I'm really glad to read this. I always feel guilty when I describe it as a "feel" in my videos but I'm not sure there's a better word for it. Intuition maybe..familiarity..either way I'm happy that you get it!
Thanks @jlampel . It helps that the courses are well put together and interesting! Also, I may listen to them on 1.5 speed! haha
Sorry to ask this here but it might be as good as any place. I have a lighting exercise submitted that only had one person grade it. It's almost the end of the week, does that mean it will be failed at the end of the week?
It's been a while.
Real life can sometimes get in the way but, hey, Jump back on the horse!
Just a couple of examples of procedural materials. I do like the process but I don't know that my brain quite works in an efficient way when trying to figure out the best route to the material I see in my head.
Example, this lava shader probably took 6 hours! But still I'm happy with the result
Fruits of the texure painting portion of @jlampel s Fundamentals of Texturing.
Not gonna lie. I bought a Huion display for this and the sculpting parts of blender and it makes it (I imagine) much easier and enjoyable. Really like the process although I may have lost painting progress at one point and almost tore my hair out! Haha,
I will also say that I highly appreciate that the course and lessons I have completed so far are always full of helpful encouragement. The authors (tutors? professors?) always remind us that we're starting something new and that skill at these thing will come though patience and practice. It's nice to be reminded when you don't get things exactly as you want.
Anyway... Heres the renders!
Nice work on the texturing course so far! I'm just a little behind you, hoping to get to the axe exercise next week. Texture painting looks like it could be fun. How's the Huion display tablet? I'm using a wacom pro (no display), works pretty well, but not being able to see what I'm drawing on the same screen feels a little weird sometimes.
Thanks!
To be honest. I like tech stuff so I may have bought a display prematurely! Haha It definitely works well and being able to see the exact place I'm about to paint etc. is great but i think the tablet can do you well for the courses etc. I think the key is starting off the strokes and not being afraid to use the undo function if it's not where you wanted.
I will say the other plus is selecting tools and brushes etc on the display is far easier.
A few images of my VERY slow progress through the Texturing Fundamentals.
The longboard.
One thing I will say is that without photoshop, the mere act of putting the text on the wheels became frustratingly complicated. Haha
I ended up using a combinations of programs. Krita to paint them and then Inkscape to produce the text in a circle. I will say I understand that really it was an unncessary step really but once I had it in my mind that I wanted it done, it had to be done. Haha
I also thought maybe I'd ask here but does anyone else have problems getting their exercises marked?
My last few are in a constant state of Limbo.
Nice work on the longboard. Looking pretty photorealistic on that first image.
Yeah, I had an assignment submission up for the Fundamentals of Lighting for a couple weeks and it was stuck in limbo. I since decided to take it down and improve it anyway... generally when I submit an assignment these days, I @ the instructor to try to get their attention... I saw Kent mention on a separate thread that they don't really get notifications for new submissions.
Thanks.
And also thanks for the advice on the exercises. I like to take a look back after I've completed assignments to mark some other submissions myself so others don't get stuck but I imagine there are MANY submissions each day for people to go that some would just end up getting lost.
I may try re submitting though. When I can get the impetus to. Haha
