Space Station Challenge 2021 WIP - Nemesis

Contests and Challenges

Hi,

This is my 1st attempt at low poly modeling.

My goal is to animate a space shuttle launching into space and then meeting up with the space station (Nemesis).

I started a bit late so hopefully, I'll finish in time.

Thank you.

Bennie

Excellent shuttle model, I’m looking forward to your completed mission.

  • Bennie Griffin(bc_griffin) replied

    Thank you Adrian.

That's the right stuff for a space enthusiast like me πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘!!!!  Aaaaaaaaand lift off πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€...

  • Ingmar Franz(duerer) replied

bc_griffin May I ask you what reference did you use πŸ€”?

  • Ingmar Franz(duerer) replied

bc_griffin: Just one more question πŸ˜‰: Is the shuttle one piece?

  • SΓ©bastien Lenaerts(slenaerts) replied

    really cool shuttle! nice modeling!

  • Bennie Griffin(bc_griffin) replied

duerer Thank you dear Ingmar. 😊 πŸ™ To answer your 1st question, I used a bunch of references online viewed from almost every angle possible to get the best results.

Obviously it won't appear as realistic to what is displayed on reference because this after all is a low poly challenge.

I took on this challenge because I've never modeled anything low poly. Thought this would be a great opportunity to test my ability. 😊

To answer your 2nd question, the model currently consists of 2 separate objects...

    - Body and Wings.

    - Tail and Engine.

The file size is currently below 2MB. I am used to file sizes of 200MB and beyond because of my love for detailed designs.

Take care of yourself dearest Ingmar. 😊

slenaerts Thank you so much. The same can be said about you. I wish you the best of luck and looking forward to your final results.πŸ˜ŠπŸ™

    Hi,

I created a test animation with some basic shading and compositing. My goal is to hopefully create a low poly cinematic feel. I haven't included a top view animation as I still need to create a terrain. The sky texture is most probably my biggest blessing. Modeling on the shuttle is almost done. Boosters and exterior tank are still a WIP. Can’t wait to add a particle system for smoke and fire. I might not meet the deadline; however, I will try my utmost.

This is a masterpiece in the making, so cool!

I'm gonna assassinate Bennie because he's too good at modeling.

  • Bennie Griffin(bc_griffin) replied

slenaerts Thank you so much. 😊 πŸ™ You are too kind. Love your final product!

  • Bennie Griffin(bc_griffin) replied

euv Thank you for your kind feedback Vue. 😊 πŸ™ Hope that you are participating too. Would love to see your wonderful work.

  • Ingmar Franz(duerer) replied

bc_griffin Absolutely breathtakingπŸ‘!  The lens flare effects make it look extra cool! How did you achieve this result?

  • Ingmar Franz(duerer) replied

Thank you very much, @bc_griffin πŸ˜€ ! Is this model all-quads? I think, with low-poly a modeler can be more generous with tris an n-gons especially since there won't be any deformations πŸ˜‰. bc_griffin Take also care of yourself, dear Bennie πŸ˜€!

  • Ingmar Franz(duerer) replied

bc_griffin Oh, one more question πŸ˜‰: Do you use any external video editing software or is this all "Made in Blender"?

  • adrian replied

    An awesome animation bc_griffin .

euv  you can do it too, keep practicing, take up the challenge and you can achieve great things.

  • Bennie Griffin(bc_griffin) replied

duerer Thank you Ingmar. 😊 πŸ™ It is a complex node setup that I created within the compositor that includes the use of various glare nodes, sun beam nodes, curve nodes, colour balancing nodes and masks. I also had to tweak the sky texture node quite a bit to achieve the desired look I was after. No external video editor were used. All effects were created solely using Blender. I push Blender as far as I can to show people it's capabilities. 😊 Thank you again Ingmar. Good luck with your projects.

  • Bennie Griffin(bc_griffin) replied

    @adrian2301 Thank you Adrian. πŸ™

euv So true what Adrian said. Keep on practicing. This is why I love Challenges as opposed to Contests. People can get very discouraged when they feel that their work is not good enough whereas with Challenges its all about You, perfecting and challenging your ability, learning and adapting. I do not become intimidated by great art, instead I become inspired and strive to become great by practicing. After all it is the mistakes we learn from that expands our knowledge. This is why we are all here,  to grow as artists. Don't give up, you will achieve great things. Your Gallery to me looks great already. 😊
