Hey, any one up for a space walk? 👩🚀👨🚀
You have got off to a flying start on your Blender journey, how about taking a challenge!!
Don't worry no space walks.
What - A Low Poly Space Station
When - July 5th 2021 - August 1st 2021
Why - To challenge yourself and practice what you learnt from the Low Poly Rocket Course
Using the same techniques and style as your low poly rocket, model a space station Elon Musk's SpaceX would be proud of. Your space station should be built with a traditional modular space station design. Your space station can be of the orbital type (floating in space), or if you have space in your yard, a ground based planetary outpost.
Those more experienced out there, can take an extra challenge if you wish, and land / dock your rocket on your space station.
You are encouraged to create a WIP thread in the community forum with the title Space Station Challenge 2021 WIP - [Enter Station Name] , Tiangong, Genesis, and International Space Station names are all taken.
Your WIP thread should consist of progressive images with a short explanation of the process at each stage.
When you post your result in the Gallery, add a link to your WIP in the description so the judges can easily find it.
A challenge rather than a contest because its for you to challenge yourselves and the knowledge you gained from a course to create a masterpiece of your own making.
A rules based challenge to maintain consistency and fairness, whilst also maintaining safety to prevent accidents from space debris.
A challenge to be the best you can be from the knowledge you have today, while striving to be even better tomorrow than you was yesterday.
Most importantly, a challenge to have some fun.
The CG Cookie crew @wesburke , @theluthier , @jlampel and @waylow will review and pick 4 Space Stations - criteria to include low poly design, name and WIP thread.
The 4 picks get:-
Make sure to add your social media handles to your profile.
If you wish to create a low poly space station after completing the Low Poly Rocket Course you can still use this challenge as part of your learning process. You can still create a WIP thread and post your result in the gallery, and receive feedback. 👍
I am looking forward to seeing what you all create in this challenge 👍, so don't forget to post a WIP thread.
Just click New on the top right of the community forum page and select Forum Topic
Then fill out the Title, write a description, select challenges in the sub category drop down , attach a file if you wish and hit Submit.
Hey everyone, 👋
How's the design stage going for you? Some people are modeling already, don't get left behind in the space race, share your WIP's for support and bonus kudos.
@adrian2301 This would be the right challenge for me as a space (travel) enthusiast, but I'm currently too busy with many other CG projects and I didn't even start the low-poly-rocket course yet 😪. Hopefully there will be another challenge of that kind in the future 😀!
PS: I'm still convinced that a 72-hours-day would help 😉😁!
duerer , 72h days would solve a lot except, the more time you have the more you fill your schedule 😅.
What kind of CG projects are you working on?
I'm curious as I'm looking to start integrating 3d modeling in my Freelance services, but not sure how that would work. What kind of projects, how to package etc...
Obviously, I still need to improve my skills first, but already thinking forward
slenaerts I'm currently working on the "Cubic Worlds" course by Zach Reinhardt. And Chris Plush's car modeling course (the Corvette) still needs to be finished. There're many other courses that I can't count all but one focus is on character design and modeling. Getting the human anatomy correct is really hard, especially with the head proportions. It looks so easy if a professional demonstrates it but if you do it yourself you experience that there're so many important aspects that you need to take care of in order to get a convincing result. I also admire the work by David Revoy (creator of the artwork for the Blender Foundation's "Spring" movie) and would like to learn drawing like him and working with Krita.
@adrian2301 I'm looking forward to your next ideas and will be part of these challenges 😀!
duerer , That sounds like super nice! Indeed, those proportions, in any render , can be a bit of a challenge. While working on something, I seem to get "proportion"-blind . Often someone has to tell me and suddenly I see it. I suppose it is a muscle you can train!.
Focus is important, you are right!
ketre you still have till end of July! I would be happy to discover your creations. Good luck!
