I've been away from Blender for several years (back when it was version 2.7x - things have changed!!) - but I'm now back to relearn and re-hone my skills!
I've realised I need a creative outlet, and I find 3D modelling to be the best combination of all my interests.
I don't normally publish a lot of my stuff (a few items from a few years ago, but not a lot I'm especially proud of), but I figured I could create a workbook here, and post stuff as I go without too much pressure about it being "gallery worthy".
So I'll post stuff as I go, and see how things go!
@jlampel Thank you so much! And whatever you have coming up next, I can't wait!
tomb2005 This is an excellent work👍! Did you use any addons for modeling this robot?
duerer thank you! No addons (except the usual), just some old fashioned hard surface modelling!
So found some inspiration from a photo on pinterest to try a super simple geometry node set-up.
Reasonably happy with the re-creation so far, just need to tidy up the modelling on the cup, then I think I'll be happy - especially as it only took a few hours to suss out.
So, at the start of a new project! Again, inspired by some artwork from pinterest - going for a street scene.
I rarely do full scenes, so this will be real challenge to maintain the momentum to completion, as well as get it to the standard I would like.
Got to start somewhere, nothing exciting, but as always we start with the block out...
I'll try to keep posting my progress, if nothing else than to keep me on track and focused!
All the elements are now in place (the bike meshes are from blendswap because, well life is too short), as well as trying to achieve the lighting look I'm after.
I'm also using the cablerator add-on which is really neat and has saved me a ton of time because, again, life is too short to be dealing with all these curves.
Now I need to do a fine detail modelling pass, before moving on to materials.
Ok, the final modelling tinkering is done... I think..!
At least, done enough for my to feel happy moving on to the materials.
Let me know your thoughts!
So been working through some materials, still got a way to go, but here's how things are looking so far...
As always, let me know how you think things are progressing!
All the materials complete...
Finals steps are to add some a little zing to it, then I'll be happy!
That is a great scene, thanks for sharing your progress in steps!
Looks great Tom!
Only the bench material might need re-visiting...I'd expect the planks to be made of wood, but they look more like some strange, very bumpy metal to me. But maybe that is intentional :)
joshcanfield thank you! It's been a challenge - a long one! But I'm almost there!
spikeyxxx ooh OK - it is meant to be wood, but I see what you mean - I think I need to rescale the textures, and perhaps reduce the strength of the bump. Thanks for the feedback!
