My first 2 WIP's of the water wheel. Still not  sure if I should go for the left or right one. In Vadim's art it's not so clear. Maybe based on the art style I should go with the right one.

I found some time to work on the wheel. Still some work to do. Tell me what you think.

The string/cord is a really cool idea! It lends a lot of character.

  • Carlo (lucky) replied

Thanks Beau, still some work to do. First I'll have to get some sleep 😊.

I echo beau, cool idea with the cording. You wheel heads are all making it your own and yet all seem to belong compositionally. Great job! Don't forget to submit for grading tomorrow.

Very nice idea with these cords/ropes. These traditionell construction design goes very well  with the art style, I guess

Homework Submission - Week 1 - Water Wheel

    @theluthier

Here's my 'blockout', just in time  😅

This will be my basis for all the sculpting I want to do. After that I'll be optimizing my poly count before baking, because at the moment it's way to high .

    lucky superb 'look and feel'!

not sure what will you have left to do in week two though...

    ; )

    Cheers!

  • Carlo (lucky) replied

Thanks, I think I'll be doing a lot of sculpting. A bit out of my comfort zone, but I'll try and learn.

  • Kent Trammell replied

    Haha "blockout", riiiiiight 😅

Well, you absolutely decimated my expectations for week 1! You get full points and then some.

I love the unique interpretation too. Imagine how good this is going to look with sculpted accents 😍

You clearly know what you're doing when it comes to modeling. Do you have experience with sculpting and baking normal maps?

  • Carlo (lucky) replied

@theluthier Thanks for your feedback. I do have some experience with sculpting and baking normal maps, but not much. Until now I only sculpted small details on my models. I want to push it further with this model though, lets see where it takes me.

Finally something to show 😊 Here's a WIP from my sculpt adventure. Still a lot to do. Tell me what you think, don't hold back 😉

There is some repetition going on in the paddles, I'll have to rotate/mirror them and probably sculpt some more. Time to get some 💤

  • Beau Kromberg(Bric-a-Brac) replied

    Looks friggin awesome! :D

  • Carlo (lucky) replied

    Thanks! How's your sculpt progressing?

  • Carlo (lucky) replied

Some more sculpted wood, still a lot of pieces to go. Room for improvement but I want first to have everything sculpted and then I'll come back to every piece, if I have the time 😅

    lucky Looking great! 😍

I'm in the same boat.  Just trying to get things sculpted to a state that I can go and fix everything up later.

I figure next week will be waaay less intense and offer lots of time to tweak things.   I'm planning on changing some of how mine is held together (brackets, bolts, etc)

Homework Submission - Week 2 - Water Wheel

    @theluthier

Here are my sculpted models, didn't get to the metal parts, I'll do them tomorrow. No to happy with the large arc piece, I'll probably redo that one. File has become quite large (1,3 Gb), don't know if I should upload it to Google Drive, maybe wait until after the bake.

    Update, sculpted some metal parts.

Another update, sculpted some more stones.

  • Beau Kromberg(Bric-a-Brac) replied

lucky I ran into the problem of my file ballooning as well. I noticed that some of my duplicates had multires on them still, so it was duplicating the sculpt data. Not sure if that's your situation.  I know my file size is still around 600mb, but it was at over a gig. 😅
