Collab2021 - WIP - ladymito

Collaborations

This is my ongoing forum for my progress in Collab2021

I started collaborating on TSFHI and left a few things half-finished waiting for Vadim's art. So I'd like to continue that way and join the treadmill.

    Normals baked with this program

I appreciate you offering to forego feedback ladymito. Thankfully I'm finding more time to do so with Lampel on board!

You're water wheel sculpt looks awesome! Just lovely. Even your stones look good. Though perhaps slightly unfinished feeling. Maybe another half-hour of attention would finalize them. But still they're solid as they are.

    Keep up the great work!

the bake looks good! However something feels off when applied to the model...like some face normals are reversed or something

ladymito  I opened your latest WIP file but could not locate your textures. Are they saved to the TEXTURES directory?

  • ladymito replied

@theluthier  Not yet. I am trying to improve the model by resculpting it.

Very nice ladymito , It's turning the wrong way.

ladymito Awesome work on your waterwheel! Even with 1K textures the details read well, which is a testament to your UV layout and baking workflow 🤝

The only note I offer is to avoid zero reflectivity. The wood material has barely any reflectivity and the stone has none. I recommend always adding at least a little reflectivity except for rare examples. Even if this asset wasn't in the water I would recommend a little reflectivity but even more so since it permanently resides in water.

I tweaked your material a bit and saved as SPICE-VENDORS-HOUSE/SCENES/MODELS/MASTER_acc_water-wheel_ladymito.blend if you want to see what I did.

    WOW!

This looks great! Is it the effect from the above video? How easy would it be to slow it down?

  • ladymito replied

pprocyonlotor   Yes, it is the effect of the Video. The shader is very easy to slow down, as well as the speed of the wheel since they go by #frame command. It is not the same with the cascades of the paddles, since I animated them with shape keys and bones. They would have to be manually repositioned with each rotation speed and water fluid adjustment.

Have you thought of linking/sharing your work with Spikey's NatureFG team? https://cgcookie.com/questions/14250-collab2021-if-you-wanna-have-some-fun-nature-fg

spikeyxxx  have seen this mill. If he is interested, he will tell me =)

In any case there are people with very good ideas.

  • spikeyxxx replied

As far as incorporating this, I don't think that my Creek people can beat this!

A few things are still imperfect, but then again; this is stylized!

Personally, I don't care about what is missing (the water rings aren't colliding with the stone support, for instance..), but absolutely loooove what is there and the effect is sooo convincing! Totally fits the style of the artwork (and going beyond that..)!

  • ladymito replied

I miss the effect of hitting the stones as well. I didn't want to go too deep into the shader as I didn't know what style the river will end up going for. In any case, with that shader, creating water effects is as easy as duplicating a plane.
