Joel Miller (The Last Of Us) Work In Progress

12 loves

Fan art. For my Beloved Wife, Chevon Angelic Griffin (1984-2015)

Hey guys, I hope you’re all well. Just placing some pedestal concepts together to see what works and doesn’t work. Thought of adding some bullet holes and a few empty bullet shell casings.

Added some god rays, ivy, and particles that made The Last Of Us feel so aesthetic yet majestic and scary in every way. I used the Ivy add-on to generate the leaves. Only noticed now that I forgot to convert the curves into meshes hence the reason why there are no branches for the leaves.

Also noticed some texturing issues on the pedestal. I might have to tweak the translucency on the leaves as it looks too solid for my liking. That is why folks we call it a work in progress. I have to say though that with each update it does indeed look better and better.

Even with this update it does not come without its many faults. I’m taking this one step at a time to produce what could hopefully be a magnificent piece of art at the end. Playing The Last Of Us Part I to observe and study the protagonist’ details.

Hope you like it guys and please take care of yourselves.

  • Super cool Bennie, love it!

  • Sorry Bennie, I can understand.

  • Joel has got that look in his eyes, Lol. Fierce.

  • I'm not familiar with the character but the sculpt looks fantastic! As far as the wrinkles go...it looks like you might have cavity shading on? If so - and also if you intend to create a skin shader with sss - the wrinkles are probably okay. I really like the effect though I understand it might not be favorable to the actor. :D

Thank you for your feedback, Coyo. My approach with this character is to create a stylized-realistic bust. Cavity is indeed enabled but I just LOVE the effect. I haven't decided yet whether this would be a Cycles or Solid render. If I decide to go with Solid I'll just dial down the wrinkles making it less pronounced. Should I decide to go with the latter I believe that no tweaking would be required as correctly pointed out. This character was inspired by a recent bust released by Dark Horse Direct showcasing Joel with a brick in one hand in a charging pose. My model will be Joel with his Taurus 66 Revolver in one hand pointing towards a Clicker and a lead/steel pipe in the other hand. Thank you once again, Coyo for your time in reviewing my project and for your constructive criticism.

I saw the thumbnail and immediately thought, hey that's Joel from Last of Us, so it does have a resemblance. Perhaps he has to many wrinkles making him look too old?

Thank you for the feedback, Omar. The references I worked from showed a lot of wrinkles. I might have exacerbated it. I'll investigate and remedy where applicable. Thanks again.
