Really enjoyed this tutorial. It had a lot of useful techniques & shortcuts I wasn't aware of in Blender. That circle feature in the Loop tool is so handy! I also used the Gear add-on tool. Rendered this in Cycles with 600 sample pass, post-processed in Pixelmator, & used iDraw to create the background texture. As for inspiration I found myself looking at tribal masks. Now off to do the materials/texture tutorial part. Thanks Kent for such a great tutorial!
This looks amazing! Really love it!
Good luck Patrick! Looking forward to what you'll come up with!
I agree with everyone's comments-my comment is inspiring. I'm going to find this tutorial. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Kent! There's a really a good reference book called Tribal Art: The Essential World Guide by Judith Miller. Just a lot of fascinating pictures.
Tribal masks - What a cool source of inspiration for a sci-fi helmet! Nice work, Gary.
Thanks Thomas! I've been using Blender for about 6 yrs. This was actually my first time attempting to use the sculpt tool. As far as skill level, maybe intermediate. There was quite a few things that I had to factor in. Modeling was just one part. Conceptualizing the design took longer than the typology.
Thanks Forrest!
Love the design, looks great! How long have you been modeling? I'm interested in knowing the skill level necessary to produce this kind of quality.
Wow! I think this is the best looking helmet model I've seen so far! I'm guessing this one will look great with materials!!
