Snow shader Final

Made for the shader forge course. I used HDRI lighting and the shader became overblown. I didn't find any way to lower the "reflections" of SSS, except mixing it with a diffuse shader. I put diffuse color at .8 and SSS color at .5. The result is less blown out, but I get harsh shadows which gives a weird result. I don't know how to lower the SSS "reflections" and keep soft shadows at the same time. I could lower the hdri intensity, but I think the shader should be ok whatever the lighting is (providing that it is correct, and I think it is the case with this hdri). Any idea ?

  • Thank you for you advice !

  • Try faking the SSS with a translucency node mixed with the rest and for the factor use a frenel controlled with by a colorramp. This way you can set it up that in the facing rays there is no translucency which in most of the cases is right bc the lenght light had to travel would be too much to transmit and in the more tangent faces the light would have less path through the shape and therefore give you some translucency
