I created this piece as a personal project right after completing Kent Trammell’s “Sculpting a Stylized Shark” course.
It was a perfect opportunity to apply the principles I learned — stylized forms, surface control, and gesture — while exploring that chunky pre-rendered CGI style from Rare’s early ’90s era.
Huge thanks to Kent Trammell for his clear and inspiring teaching!
Ahhh I love this
tahariel! Not only is a wonderful sculpt - I grew up with 90's era RARE games, especially DKC and DKC2. This is so good!
I also really appreciate the shout out. The best part about teaching is seeing students take what they learn and run with it, applying in unique ways. I can't wait to see what you do next!
Thanks so much, Kent! That means a lot coming from you. Your course gave me a solid foundation for sculpting in Blender — it really opened the door to create. I’m totally in tune with your way of teaching — it’s so clear, enjoyable, and inspiring. Glad you caught the RARE vibes, those games shaped my childhood too!
That is so cool you applied the sculpting knowledge on your own art. I bet this is inspired by the Rhino in the Donkey Kong games.
