I recently picked up a book on portraits and have been practicing using what I've learned on various characters (from open movies and maybe one or two of my own eventually)..
tthepainter Yes... All of these are from open movies (well... all except Victor). I took the base files, added my own lighting set up based on what I've been learning from the portrait book I've been reading and tried to do at least a little posing from the default pose to give at least a little interest and added a background.
Basically, I've been using these models as practice with lighting, camera angles, and such in making portraits

As i know this characters are from blender open movies and are available for download on blender cloud.
