Planet (Maya) Final

Week 12 at CG Spectrum took me for a ride in the node editor of Maya! Haven't been working with nodes for like 6 months so this was quite a struggle X) The homework for this week was to create a moon/planet to use in the backdrop of the previously created penguin, where an ice floe will also be added!

This lesson was all about procedurally generated modeling and so we started out with a Platonic Solid poly that we turned into a cube, then added a bunch of divisions to make it a sphere, and then the node magic began!

And here's the result of a bunch of projections of texture deformers that were tweaked with nodes that I don't quite understand just yet, lol ;P Then everything was baked into maps - applied in Substance Painter for texturing and painting.

Low poly on the right, high poly on the left!
